I had posted this in another thread.
I think the highlander is getting the same 3.5 the Tacoma has.
I bet the 4Runner will eventually get it or some variation of it

If they put that piece of shit engine in the 4Runner, I am done with Toyota.

The 4Runner is the only thing they have left worth saving!! The Tundra is way too damn ugly to ever sit in my driveway.

Just ordered a 2016 Trail Premium for the wife as a birthday gift for her. I too was thinking about waiting for next years truck but with all the engine change stuff I figured waiting would net sketchy results. No big deal, I just kind of wanted to get the Tacoma allot further along before I started another project.

Just look at the build thread
If the 2017 Pros don't have the 3.5, I'll consider trading in my 2016 Trail for one. Although I was hoping 2016 would be the last year. Then I'd have a reason to keep my '84 4Runner.

I hope not & don't think it will be...just hoping if it has the same motor as the Tacoma/RX/Highlander it's re-tuned. And it remains body on frame. Just recently read the '17 Highlander will have the some tranny as the RX (8speed) not sure that help the gear hunting if it's on the T4R.

Just picked up my 2016 trail premium with kdss last week, what an awesome truck, the kdss has the added benefit of making this truck a better towing platform too.

I like the new ones and have tried to talk my wife into one, but she won't go for the V6. Her 2006 V8 4Runner just rolled 50K miles, so I think we'll have it for a while longer.

after driving our 15 limited through the mountains last week i was mostly satisfied with the power, kept the tranny in sport and dropped a gear when needed, if the 17 gets the 3.5 it will be a big dissapointment

I want to drop a V8 in my 2014. If they come out with a SC, I'll be very tempted to buy one.
