I was wondering if anyone has moved or added a USB port that connects to the radio. I have my phone mounted above the dash and want to add charging and the ability to play music from it. Tired of having the cable running around the dash to the port at the bottom.

I want to find out if there is a way to access that port that is down there and move that port elsewhere, or have dual access from another point. AKA Tap it and run another connection to it so that I can run my phone/ipad from a mount up there and not have a 3ft cable running around my dash.

You might try running a usb cable along the headliner down like has been done for hard wiring a dash cam . Search dash cam . I bought a 10 ' usb cable for my dash cam but did not install it yet.

    A couple things.

The stock port is a stupid low amperage. I think it might be only 0.5A? Not enough to keep most any device happy. So IMHO, it is probably only good for an audio connection.

    I installed one of these:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FFL2E6Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used the blank left side spot above the charging pad on my non-tech / non-prem Sport. It doesn't seem to put out a full 2.1A, but does slowly charge my phone while using navi and music.

Getting an audio connection from an aux charger is probably not possible without an aftermarket head unit?

Also, just throwing out a big recommendation for the Hondo Unholy Mount. I had a suction mount on top of the dash that didn't cut down visibility too much, but it was a big reach even with a 5in RAM arm. The Hondo mount is in the perfect spot and the USB cable is out of the way of everything.
