while the taco CAN tow a decent amount (almost 7k), its not really regarded as a hauler/tower. Its there if you need it, but not many people put it through its paces by it being a tow pig. it never has been and never will be. at that point its just a nice to have feature, not a requirement in this truck

I agree. If you tow a rig regularly, the Taco may not be the right tool for the job.

I think it's not secret that Toyota tuned the motor for maximum mpg.

I have a car trackday coming up this weekend, and considered using my Taco to tow my 911 ~ 4000lbs with weight of trailer included, but the thought of straining my Taco up and over a mountain pass made me decide otherwise.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
We all know you need to measure a vehicle by how many cupholders come with it.

I mean there are "workarounds". You could use ECT, Sport mode, regear and/or combination of those and it would be completely fine. Wasnt there a video of a review of 3rd gen towing like 6k (horses and trailer) or something and they didnt mind it?

I live and drive in Atlanta. If you actually push down on the gas pedal instead of softly caressing it with your toes, the V6 does perfectly fine coming up to highway speed. Even on the occasional suicide ramp. Yes it makes noise when it revs. That's its happy sound.

(FYI, highway speeds typically are 75-80+ and anyone actually doing the 65-70 limit is risking getting mowed down -- no points here until you're 15 over or more, so tickets below that are vanishingly rare)

If the Tacoma was a car, then I would be pissed. But it's a truck... 1/4 mile times don't matter in my opinion regarding trucks. Still interesting to know.

You maybe thinking of the TFL truck ike guantlet tow test? The truck was towing fine, albeit pegged at around 6500 rpm and got something like 10 mpg ~ which is all fine and acceptable workload for the 3.5.

I use a featherweight 18 feet trailer to tow to the track. I have towed everything from 993 to 360CS to Lotus 211, with no issues. Though I used to use my Land Cruiser/LX570 before, last two years, I have been using my Tacoma, though for my next truck I will be moving to a Tundra 5.7L 4wd Double Cab, 8 feet bed.

My friend tows his motorcycle with his Elise, so my Tacoma is fine towing my race cars :)

I don't have any issues with the power. I came from a 2nd gen, and think the 3rd is absolutely faster. The gear head in me just wishes there was say another... 25 hp :)

The OCD inside me wants an even 300 hp!

Ever wonder why OCD folks never seem bothered that the letters in OCD aren't alphabetical? :D

Yeah, more power is always nice... if it comes without killing fuel mileage.

I kept my funcar for acceleration and cornering.

It does perfectly fine in crazy Texas highways, too. If you're going 80, you're going too slow here.

Toyota needs to come down in price. GM is high but tacoma takes the cake. And all I have seen on the 3rd gen forums is complaints. I doubt if I ever buy another GM but toyota needs to step up quality and come down in price.

Isn't Tacoma price very competitively with Ridgeline and Colorado?

The Colorado's got the Tacoma beat easy when it comes to the value of the warranty.
I bought my Tacoma with a 3 year/30,000 mile warranty. So far, the dealership has checked my fluid twice, changed oil once, and rotated tires. Hence, the value of my warranty comes out to be a few hundred dollars.
My friend bought a Colorado with the same warranty and he's already got a new transmission. That's about a $5,000 value.

2-3k higher for roughly comparable equipment when I priced the Canyon and Tacoma in late August once you start getting to real prices vs. MSRP. There's a dealer across the state line into Alabama that advertises Canyons ate 4500 or more off MSRP right on their website.

Edit: here's an example. Canyon SLT listed at a $5k discount. Haven't looked at the details but it must be pretty loaded to hit 44kMSRP
