My 2016 BBP still looks flawless. Seems like a 2017 issue. Maybe a bad batch of clear coat or some other malfunction.

Toyota knows what the problem (was/is?) but I bet we (public) will never hear. All we can do is guess, unless it is so widespread they have to let everyone know that has a truck within the problem batch!?

After dropping my truck off at the dealer. They called back and said they will be sanding and painting my entire truck. Dropped off at dealer on Sept 28th.

Damn @Johnnymoe, all I got was the hood, roof and tops of the fenders! Hope it's worth the wait to get the whole truck painted.

I honestly think they should respray the whole truck. It fades on the roof and hood first because it's in sunlight the most, but soon the sides will fade too and who knows, it might be outta warranty when that starts.

Dealer said they saw the same use for the first time about a week ago. Toyota rep checked that one out and they will re paint. Hoping they will do the same for me.

My 17 taco has confirmed bad paint at 22k. Warranty for paint is 36k. The clear coat which protects the acrylic blazing blue was too thin. In process of having Toyota repaint at local shop.

Lol! You know what’s funny? I had some jackwagon on here arguing back and forth with me claiming he was positive Toyota doesn’t even have a clear coat on our trucks. He kept on about it and wouldn’t accept any other opinion. What a dipshit.

White is single stage. No clear.

Obviously not the case with BBP, but it happens in one color.

Nu-Finish Polish commercial said it will
bring out the shine on any ride. They
even showed a car at the junk yard
that looked new when they used it.
The car they used it on used to look like
the ones you guys are having problems with, it was amazing.
Did any of the folks having problems, use
    Nice-Finish yet?

Nu-Finish is really a paint remover disguised as a “polish”... the renewal process requires a single stage paint (no clear coat) as this product thins out existing paint and fills-in scratches by smearing the now removed, paste like semi-wet paint into the scratch crevasses. That’s how the old cars get their original paint shine back... Nu-Finish simply removes the dull old top layer (look on the applicator or paste removal towel and you can see the paint transfer). Product was invented in the 1930’s, which was well before clearcoat was an auto “standard”, rendering it useless on most of today’s multistage paint processes (although I’m sure it’s been reformulated a few times over the years). Regardless, the results are achieved by removing some of the existing factory paint finish.

Baja Mexico is the plant that produced the trucks with the bad clear coat

Can anyone with this issue (like myself) acknowledge the earliest date Toyota was informed of the problem? Apparently dealerships continued to sell these Tacomas after the issue was known, and should have been making buyers aware at the very least.
