I'm new here folks and this may have been covered somewhere please bear with me. Has anyone experienced a "surge" while on the brake. For example I'll come to a traffic light and brake, a second or two later the engine will rev a small amount and then the vehicle will attempt to lunge forward with foot on brake. I've got 8000 Kms and it's done this since new. Curious what this might be. Thanks!

Your engine is just changing rpm due to some changing load (air conditioning compressor, etc) and the simple way to fix that is to depress the brake firmly. That's firmer than what you do now. In reality you should be able to hold the brake and give it plenty of gas and still not move.

It's adaptation to a new vehicle. Some things you have to do differently. Firmer brake is one of them.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
mine has done this all the time since new (3K now) --I see a problem possible when the roads are slick from snow/ice

^^^ This. Load causes increase in rpm, which causes surge forward. Press harder on brake pedal, it's normal.

My 2013 did too, which made me ask the question back then, but now I get why. Makes sense.

Mine was twitchy af today when I had to start my truck to pull it ahead a little in my garage to get something out of the back. Reversing was even worse.

It's like a tweaked out meth head is running the show under the hood. It seriously made backing into my tight spot a pita.

Mine does it too occasionally. I've had mine for almost 2 months. Engine overpowers my brake force for a second. I think over time I've adapted to it a bit more so I rarely notice it now.

Mine does it too. It will raise the pucker factor when parking in a tight space. Pretty sad Toyota can't get this crap figured out.

Seems like there have been about half a dozen threads about this. I bare with it everyday. I've never driven another vehicle that did this. I can only hope some TW fellow who is smarter than I will tackle this issue and come up with a resolution. Luckily I haven't had too many other issues.

My 2nd gen would do it from time to time,
haven't noticed it on the 3rd gen yet .
The dealer told me it was the A/C kicking on with my 2nd gen and as usual he said that was normal lol.. turned out that my 2nd gen had a bad rear seal on the tranny and I was driving with low atf fluid. Took my 06 to a tranny shop and did a flush and new seal and walla ...
Don't discount low tranny fluid as the culprit as the 3rd gen is notorious for this!!!

Seems like it's common and a trait of the Tacoma. I'll just adjust to it. It's my first Tacoma and I like it....The only thing is the expectations are so high when you buy one of these because of the sky high ratings over the years that you tend to feel let down a bit when quirks like this happen. ( and power seats on a 40,000 plus vehicle should be standard too!) . Thanks everyone and enjoy the day.

Into the transfer case? I seem to recall a couple members who had that happen.

I have a 1995 Hi lux it does it too, it has to do with the AC compressor cycling, very normal incident.
