    It absolutely does. If you don’t make a down payment you will have negative equity the minute you drive off the lot. If your truck gets totaled you will have to pay the difference between what insurance covers and what you owe. If you make a large down payment you will have significant equity in your truck immediately. No gap between the value of the truck and your loan amount. Thus the term “gap” insurance. Tell me how the down payment has nothing to do with this scenario.

    I think the best case scenario is to have enough money saved up that if your vehicle gets totaled, it won't really hurt you financially to take some money out of your savings to pay the difference...

    You are an ignorant fool if you think that. Unless you’re one of those guys who either leases or trades it in every two years. :annoyed:

    Cash is king! Unfortunately not everybody can pay cash for their vehicle, and that's okay...

    I know, right? That kind of a rhetorical question...

    It's always best to pay cash for a vehicle if you can afford it!

    @sdsurfer

    My uncle paid cash for his 2017 AC TRD Sport 2WD; $25K and it only had 16K miles!

    I've driven it before; He thinks he's gonna sell it in three to five years and I might buy it from him!

    And you're not gonna believe this; My uncle bought it used from a Nissan dealership! Some old man bought the Tacoma new, decided he didn't like it, and traded it for a Nissan!

    There's no need to pay cash if you have a 0 APR.
    And I would GAP on it.
    Accident happens 1 year from purchase,
    You paid 5000$ so far on 30,000$
    Insurance is only paying 20,000$
    You would have owed 5000$ BUT YOU PAID 500$ FOR GAP!

    Who said anything about getting a loan though Toyota, and if you're credit is at the top you normally get a low-0 APR on loans if you go through the right channels.
    Using a dealership for a loan is silly when your bank will treat you alot nicer.
    But you need to have the history and credit.

    My Tacoma was a gift from my parents when I got my learner's permit, TEN YEARS AGO! Almost 109K miles and still going strong! My dad bought the truck new in September 2009, and financed it through Citadel at 0.9% APR (in the middle of the recession), then paid it off early. My cousin got 0% on her 2017 RAV4 through Toyota.
