Ok, I do get it. This wasn't used in the right context. Gap insurance isn't some "young person thing."

I'm guessing it's targeted at the poor less financially strong people or those with limited knowledge of economics. And to be fair, there are probably a few circumstances where it might make sense.

If they do total it, make sure you ask for local tax on top of their offer

With regards to gap insurance, ask your auto insurance agent to add it to your policy. It likely won't be $500 or even $100. We added it on a 0% financed car for about $30 per year, then you cancel it when you are no longer upside-down on the loan.

    Edit:
    Similar situation here,
I stumbled across this 2017 in the used lot of a Kia dealership.

After reading through my post I see what an insensitive prick that I am, the OP totals his truck and I'm going on about shit that doesn't matter.

    Sorry to hijack the thread.

Good on you for following your dream! You’re never too old to buy a Tacoma! Also, your story is proof that Tacomas never last long on dealer lots!

So in what alternate universe does this make more sense?
1: Pay interest on the entire amount that you didn't put down and end up spending a couple thousand more than if you paid cash or put the majority of the money down.
2: Not owning the vehicle so if/when it gets totaled you still have to pay the bank instead of taking the $$ from your insurance to put it towards a new vehicle.
3: Racking up more debt if you don't manage your budget well while you are paying the car off because you probably couldn't really afford to buy the vehicle in the first place if you're only putting a few thousand down. Or you just don't mind paying interest and in that case this doesn't apply to you.

The way I see it the only way financing a large sum of money helps you at all is in building credit. I'm 22 years old and paid cash for my Tacoma almost 2 years ago. Does that make me a fool? No, but I do see the side that could've helped as far as building credit history because I hope to buy a house sometime in the next few years.

That was thoughtful of you to edit your comments (but it was a good story :D). That said, hoping for the OP's sake that his truck is totaled and he gets enough to pay off his loan and upgrade to a new Tacoma of his dreams. @somename123 please let us know when you get a verdict from the insurance adjuster...

People who pay cash for their cars have the means to do so. It's nice :) That's the real deal.

I see it on other forums I follow. People come on with questions, get the answer and never respond or update again.

Arb summit bumper. Morimoto led headlights and new grill. Grill and lights have sequential turn signals.
Just some food for thought, the inferno color option is retired.
So if you really like the color then you might have to fight for it.
