Problem free got 26,000 miles on her now!! We shall see how long that last. I got a friend that has at 2016 with almost 100,000 and he has never had a problem! I have been driving my 2000 model more since I got her fixed up. Trying to keep the miles of my 17 but I just can’t help but to wanna Drive her. It the best riding truck I have ever had with the icons on it.

Over the last 1000 miles, I have smelled hot coolant after driving with the engine loaded, like off roading up steep climbs. I have slithered underneath the truck a few times and have not seen tell tale leak paths or wet spots. Thanks for the picture, now I have a reference point.

As for plastic coolant flanges, VW, Audi, BMW, have been using them since the early 1980s.

Yes sir you have got the same problem I had. Couldn’t find the leak to small to see it. It was on the bottom bolt of the passenger side manifold. Get it scheduled to fix ASAP! Also make sure you 1255A710-5CA7-4757-90C9-C6D40DB9AC3D.jpg check the braket underneath your radiator hose. Picture below! GRIND THE Bottom corner off mine was rubbing the hose. Don’t want to get off somewhere and spill your guts lol

I modified that bracket after 100 miles of ownership.

    Update from the dealer:

It is confirmed, water bypass joint is cracked at the plastic seam. You can see the part is located at the back of the engine. Can't wait to get it back! @eurowner I would be suspicious of this part on yours since mine was leaking on my exhaust.

I had this done. It's not a simple fix. They have to remove the injectors. I suspect a lot of trucks have this problem. My service dept discovered it when checking the Trans fluid level.

It looks like TW saved me some money this time instead of costing me. Add me to the list of Tacoma owners with this problem. I want to thank the OP for starting this thread. After I stumbled across this thread I made a mental note to check for this leak because I'm 3K miles from my warranty expiring. This past weekend I looked under the hood behind the motor and sure enough, there was some dried-up coolant. Brought the truck to the dealer first thing Monday morning and they diagnosed the same problem the OP posted. My dealers mechanic said this is the first truck they had seen with this problem and they weren't sure how long it was going to take to repair and what is involved since they haven't had to make this repair yet. I know it didn't happen if I don't have pictures to prove it so I will post pictures of the paperwork once the truck is done. Currently, the dealer hasn't received the parts yet and won't have them until this Friday so I don't expect to get my truck back until Monday.

    12/1/17 Update

Dealer just called and said this problem appears to be more widespread so the parts are on back order. The worst case scenario is the parts will arrive 12/19.

Finally got my truck back today. Hopefully, the replacement part holds up better than the original but I'm not all that confident.

They told me it broke due to improper istallation during assembly. It's stated on the work description I posted earlier. So hopefully not a faulty part issue.
