yeah I'm a 3.5 and like I said I'm a chevy guy when I pop the hood It looks like its made from Chinese people hanging upside down. but gotta give it up to em it sadly beats the hell out of my rado. but furthermore its a 2017 and a work daily driver a charger would not be the greatest option when I roll up to clients and they hear my motor screaming. theres gotta be some other secrets to power besides "intakes"

In the GM world, there are endless options for engine performance modifications, but that's pretty much where it ends.

In the Toyota world, you have dramatically more suspension choices, bumpers, diff lockers, skid plates etc. to choose from but not much out there for engine performance apart from the superchargers that Toyota offered for the older V6 Tacomas. You'll find some companies making headers, etc, but probably not a whole lot out there for the 3.5 yet. The 4.0 had been around long enough where that stuff had been developed. The 3.5 is still pretty new.

    What year was your Colorado?

I have 3 gms. 2008 2500 DMAX, Chevy Colorado DMAX both Z71. and the truck I just sold was an 09 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 with headers,Tune,Catback,Intake, the infamous throttle body spacer. camburg upper control arms and King 2.5's all around. my next issue is subwoofers in my taco. I put 2 tw5's in it and it rattles the thing apart I'm so annoyed. I'm hoping they come out with a little canned tune in the future for the 3.5 or atleast a shop that can do a performance tune.

no I would have kept my chevy if I wanted a v8. the 285hp is the same as a 1500 on starts due to weight I just like the motor grit and throttle response. its a great get around town truck I can crawl up anything looking for places to shoot my ar. the trucks amazing I just want to find a way to push over 300whp. I love snappy throttles but I don't feel like blowing rods and pistons with a charger plus adding another 5-6k+ on a 40k truck not my cup of tea.

People continue to use the 40K truck and assume that's a lot of money.

Honestly, it's not an insignificant amount of money, but it's all relative.

For 40k, you have to choose between:

    1. MPG
    2. Off Road performance
    3. Towing Performance
    4. Engine upgradeability
    5. Suspension / Drivetrain Upgradability
    6. Creature Comforts
    7. HP / TRQ and Power
    8. Size (mainly for trails)

You simply cannot have it all for price range.

Hell, for 40k you can barely have a Jeep Rubicon, which sacrifices even more than the Tacoma on everything to get more Off Road Performance. Trust me, as I frequently ride with a friend who has a 2015 Rubicon. My Tacoma cost 4K less, and is better at towing, hauling, creature comforts and ride quality. He has just as many suspension choices (if not more), and he's got a front locker. That's pretty much it.

If you want it all, spend 60k, or buy a 40k truck and put a custom crate motor in it, that should get you to 60k pretty easily.

Honestly man, no they don't. Tuners are not very effective for this truck. It's all about off road with this thing.

Well intake and exhaust it is. lets pray for something in the future. but no I used to be and still am a die hard GM guy I still own 2. but for driving to work for crawling up hills finding new places to shoot and just having a fun safe reliable journey I am in love with this. it is without a doubt the best vehicle I have ever owned, granted it only has 900 miles on it and my mpg is still averaging 16 I still love it. it was between this and a 6.2l z71 Silverado but the insurance for a 21 year old wasn't the best looking figure on that vehicle lol. I am 100% new to Toyota I have no idea how it works tbh, all I know is I blew 3 chevy 4l60 transmissions in a matter of 60k miles so it was time for smart vehicle that can do everything I need it to do. with that being said in the future I'm going to be dropping camburg UCA's, Deavers, and either King or Fox all the way around so my reasoning for this post was if anyone new anything that can help me get more bottom end after I lose it all dropping 33" tires on the damn thing.

P.S. as a chevy owner I am well aware of the ROI my taco could have 100k miles on it right now and I could get between 32-35k back and when I put 50k miles on a fully loaded chevy with the best trans and engine package ill be lucky to get a little over 1/3rd of my investment back. value pulled me away from gm and that fucking trans. excuse my language.

on 91octane my 5.3 chevy with jba ceramic shorty headers, edge tuner, cold air intake,tb spacer, and magnaflow catback exhaust (Lovely CA Compliant) pulled about 289-300 hp at the wheel my whole goal is to get somewhere a little closer to that in the future. I know our 3.5 is pushing like 229whp stock so gains between 30-50 hp is really what I'm looking for. but I know nothing about a v6 especially from Toyota.

This is why I no longer own my Silverado. Died at 68k miles. RIP. Also, friends Cruze died at 89k miles. Got rid of wife's Equinox before it croaked around 80k miles.

I really did enjoy my Silverado, and no doubt the 5.3 feels NOTHING like the 3.5 on the Toyota, but I'd had a Tacoma before and knew what I was going to give up for it.

Tires on my ride are currently stock, when they go, I'm thinking 2" lift and 265/75/r16 on stock rims. Falken Wildpeaks likely. I might add 1.25" spidertrax spacers to kick the wheels out to be flush with the fenders.

*Edit* I had the 6L60e tranny in my 5.3 Silverado I think.

Oh, and one additional thought. Toyota (other than the Tundra) has never given people really powerful engines for the vehicles, it's mostly "just enough, maybe a little more" logic.

The only benefit to this is that a moderately powered truck gets better MPG, and turns less torque. While that doesn't seem like a positive, consider that the reason the Toyota's are viewed to last longer is likely because they are not overpowered, burning up clutches and torque converters, transmissions, and snapping drive line like they are going out of style.

If you go bigger tires, and leave factory specs, then re-gearing will help with the power loss, and that's your decision to make, as Toyota didn't engineer the vehicle for that purpose, it's something you want to do. The nice thing is that so many people do it there's lots of good info available and plenty of different products to choose from.

I've enjoyed my v8's and more power days, but for now, I'd like to keep a transmission in a vehicle longer than 150k, and a powered down vehicle I don't heavily mod is going to give me a fighting chance.
