How long have you owned it? Miles, and time/months/days? Dealer or private party? Reason for asking. I hope not for your sake, someone didn't put stop leak in it gor resale value. I hate to think they would do so, even bringing it up to you.

I bought it 3 months ago I've put about 5,000 mi on it ,bought it from a dealer in ca.... When I took the skid plates off it was super cleaner didn't look like it had been leaking before.... Everything was super clean like it had been pressure washed or deep cleaned

What brand of oil did you use? Was it some "high mileage" formula?

High mileage oils have additives to help swelling of seals.

I'd drain it out, see how much you get (measure it) you never know if it's the wrong dipstick..... I've seen that happen.

The oil filter housing is further up on the engine and where this leak is, above the oil pan below the transmission the oil filter housing is dry and I changed it out for a new one this morning no change in the leak so I don't think it's the oil filter or the housing

If it was drained and you dumped 6 back in, I highly doubt you over filled it unless it wasn’t completely drained. I always refill mine with exactly 6. Forget the extra bottle for the “.2” the manual talks about. When I put 6 in I literally can bet on the level when I check it to be about 3/4 to the top of the normal range on the dipstick.

Please don't feel bad if you made an error. When I was changing oil and filter on my 2016 4Runner, I was exact on o-ring placement and how I tightened the oil filter housing. It initially feels hard then gets easy before getting tight again. So I used a torque wrench whenever I changed the oil on my 4Runner. The tightening feel is much different on the cartridge type if you are used to can oil filter type.

It is possible that you may have cracked the oil filter housing during removal or replacement.

But it was only a little over the dot it really wasn't that bad and also that 020 is really thin especially when it's brand new

I'm hoping I made a mistake I've watched countless how to videos on that caster filter I'm pretty confident I did it correctly and the oil leak is not coming from the canister filter it's further back towards the pan

Anything’s possible. My suggestion is to start over.

First attack it with degreaser/brake clean, whatever and get as much of the mess cleaned up.

When you change it, be on level ground with the nose higher in the air. That’ll get as much as you can out. Make sure your o ring is on the correct spot on the can. Dump in 6 quarts…that’s it. Torque everything correctly. Drive it a bit let it sit and check the level. You’ll be in the correct range. Then keep an eye on things.

Wouldn’t hurt to dump some UV dye in there too to find the leak if it is indeed leaking. That stuff is a few bucks and you can get a harbor freight UV flashlight probably free if you buy something else you need
