Just picked up my 2016 AC TRD Sport V6. Wondering where the oil filter is on the engine.

There is a previous thread on this topic:

    Great pics!

2016 owners might want to consider replacing that plastic for aluminum, for obvious reasons.

My wife's Toyota Sienna has this type of filter. Oil changes are messy, can't believe they did this

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.
    Another example of backwards progress.
One of the great things about the 4.0 was the great oil filter setup.

Does anyone know if the dipstick is easier to use?

Is there any actual benefit to cartridge vs traditional canister filters? Maybe Less to dispose of but just wondering why they switched

Is it the same filter on the 4 cylinder?

I would think not since the 4cyl didn't change much if any.

I hope it's the regular filter, about to go outside and crawl underneath and see lol, and report back!

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Probably did the change due to environmental friendly issue's? Meaning that a plain paper/fiber filter will be easier to break down over a period of time compared to a metal canister?

Also on another note, looks like Toyota didn't put in an "excess oil drain release" hole-prior to changing the filter during oil changes?

Would have like'd a close up picture of the side of the new filter box that's showing directions (removal/installation) as shown in the picture below.

Is this picture of the same cap, but one is metal (left) and one is the stock plastic (right)?

I'm not sure I've ever seen this type of oil filter before. Is this common?
