I hate shitty articles like this. This only shows what each company sold. And is shows sales are down for all midsize trucks.

So you can say people are buying less midsize trucks and of those trucks sold most are Tacoma. That sort of always been true.

Thanks for the fake news click bate on a shitty articles.60532158.jpg

I don't own one but that doesn't change the fact that it's a badass motor. When you're pulling down the same mpg as a base Tacoma engine AND have 325 hp/375 tq to boot, id say that's pretty good. I'd personally choose a 4cyl Tacoma as long as it had a manual, but I'd be pissed getting my doors blown off by a 2.7 ecoboost knowing he was getting the same mileage as me and had twice the power and almost 3x the tq. Like I said, if Ford drops that engine in the Ranger it'll be bad news for GM and Toyota because it'll sell like a tall glass of ice water in hell.

People obviously dont understand clearly, the culture that goes with a well-marketed, well-designed product and/or automobile. There is no way in hell any other midsize is going to take a huge chunk out of the Toyota share. Toyota (and Tacomas) are deeply engrained in automobile buyer's minds as the cars and trucks that are reliable (with favorable service) and run for a million miles. It's not as simple as turning a switch on and off (or placing a certain engine in a truck). Tacomas are (and will be) the "cool kid truck."

Go sell an AWD Ford Focus Hachback to all the hipsters in Oregon and Colorado. Not gonna happen. They drive Subarus.

I have a buddy here at work who has a 2002 Taco with 387,000 miles on it, and he claims its only repair was a belt change. Ford can shrink down and put big stickers and knobby tires on something....but it wont do that.

we have 2 7.3's in the family, one is an old IDI without Turbo, slow and reliable, has a hydraulic dump bed on it. You wouldn't believe how handy it can be when needed even if it's not very often. The other is a 99 F250 that is arguably one of the best years, because of the rods in it. Though we need to sell the 99.

The 99, well 7.3 in general, is such a good engine that the turbo went out on it while hauling a 115hp GEHL loader on the interstate. My brother, his rig, just held the pedal to the metal, literally, to maintain 50 mph, the floor pan got super hot, but he made it home. He had the turbo rebuilt, and the engine has 0 ill effects, and now has 320k miles on it. The biggest issue with the 7.3 is you gotta replace the water pump i think it is my brother bitches about, idr. Either way, 1 of the best engines ever.

Edit: who else feels like a star every time the famous tacoma forum name Smitty appears and he has liked your post.. lol

Seems "the market" isn't worried about those things nearly as much as you are.

A Tacoma could be first or last... I'll keep driving one as long as it keeps making me happy.

You know, somewhere out there is a guy in a Mazda B2300 that still thinks his pickup is the best one in the world!

The OP posted one factual positive thing about the Tacoma and we have five pages and going of just BS negativity on the same Tacoma , every month people here say how bad they suck and every month the sales numbers prove the opposite. Tacoma world has it finger on the pulse of the public, very intuitive and well thought out.

If it's a loaner then you should drive it like you stole it just like what I see on this pic. So keep up the great job!

I've actually been pretty easy on it. I'm waiting on a new T4R (still have my old one listed on here) and the cat that owns the local Toyota store is a buddy. So I asked if I could take the Tacoma for a few days just to see what the 3rd gen is like. It's a store owned rental with ~ 4K on it. So I don't wanna abuse it. It's actually the same path or trail my T4R takes several times a week.

I gotta say, having been a 1st & 2nd gen Taco owner, I'm pretty impressed with it. It is hugely different than my T4R and different than the other Tacos I've owned. It does like to hunt gears but it's pretty seamless and has more than enough umph for me.

2002 DC 4x4 with 245k on the speedo here. Owned it since it came off the truck 15 years ago.

Replaced timing belt (and water pump while they were there) oh...about 170k miles ago.

Bent alignment tabs taking a ditch hard (slid off road) being pushed by the camper trailer. More of a crash than anything. Bad. Did a field alignment to straighten the wheels, cleaned up and re-tightened the brake line banjo bolt (not sure why, but it separated) and continued to camp for my 10 day elk hunt in really crappy weather and roads. Didn't see another vehicle where I ventured into for almost a week after it started to dry out a little.

Am on 3rd steering rack (leaks...hate the leaking Toyota racks).

Replaced rear axle seals over 150k ago.

Separated driver engine mount a year ago trying to climb out of a nasty canyon on a power line trail. Four heavy duty zip ties around the mount held, got me up the canyon, and got me out of the woods and back home. Replaced the mount a few months later.

Starting to burn a little oil (1.5qt between changes at 5k).

    Just replaced cat converters.

That's it that I can recall. Best vehicle, hands down, I've ever owned. My 4th Toyota. All were great vehicles.

That's why I'm going Tacoma again next month. If I want to win a race, I'll buy a Colorado, Raptor, whatever. But I don't. And don't much care who blows my doors off. I want a daily driver that will take a real beating off road on weekends and hunting trips to the middle of nowhere, and get me back every time without the aid of a tow truck or tow strap. You just aren't doing that in a Colorado (not as hard as I wheel).

All those days, weeks and thousands of miles of hard off roading, and not once has it let me down. Failed to start once out in the sticks due to a drained battery. A bunch of D cells taped end to end got me going again.

The Colorado drivers can win the street races. And maybe they can hitch a ride in my passenger seat when their chit falls apart miles from nowhere too.

Seems to be a lot of complaints on the 3rd gen. I'll find out for myself. Tacoma (and toyota) has earned my trust. I've owned fords, Chevy's, BMW's. Wasn't a one of them that didn't need a lot more fixing than I could accept. Unreliable garbage (IMO). Fine if its a mall cruiser or primary duty is towing boats and such. When out in the sticks...not so much.
