I kind of want something like this, but I don't see the point of the cup slots nor the "cutting board" material. I mean, it would be hard to keep clean enough to put food on, but I guess easy to clean if food or fish guts got on it. I carry a small cutting board when camping. I just want a flat spot for my stove, drinks, etc and something easier to crawl on.

Seems like many of the alternative linked in this thread are no more. The DIY one a few posts up looks great, but I don't have a router. Is anyone else making something similar but simpler? Seems like someone here could bang out something basic and do a group buy.

I was in the same boat as you. Even tried another company HDPE tailgate insert that failed and warped under weather changes. Ended up with the SnailArmor https://snailarmor.com/products/snailarmor-tacoma-tailgate-flat-panel tailgate insert. It works, durable, flat, it is what it is. I’ve hauled rocks, dirt etc and gone camping and used it as a flat surface for cooking. It went on and I sorta forgot about it because it’s just been nice. Cup holders, designs would just be a distraction to its simple use. That’s my thoughts on it. I know some people just love the cup holders.

Snailarmor is my worst nightmare. With triple digit summer heat, that metal surface will fry an egg.

I used a sheet of abs. And a jigsaw and a file. It can easily be done other ways.

@MESO has one in the works, but above that price range, as it is a bit more involved…

Okay, that's pretty cool. Curious how much actual space there is inside and how much weight it will take before it effects the opening/closing of the door.

I'm also wondering what would store well there considering it will shift every time the tailgate is open/closed. Rope or other tie downs, clothes, etc. seem a good choice. I'd also forego the lock to save money as my bed/cap is already locked.

To each his own. If you like to carry around 200 pounds of kitchen gear or a skottle I'm carrying the skottle.
