No , opposite . Come on guys this is basic stuff. It's a wedge it's thick in the back and thin in the front so it rotates it up in the front.

2017 DCSB TRD OR, has shims plus about 1 inch of extra lift and a little over 5k miles. No drive line vibes or unusual noise.

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Why is this only on the off road? Out of curiousity I peaked under my non OR and there isn't a shim. I don't get any vibes or whine. Does the OR have higher ride height?

you dont need to drop the carrier bearing down, you need to shim the angle of the diff/driveshaft connection up so that the diff housing is more in line with the driveshaft. They sell "rear axle shims" in different sizes between 3 and I think about 6 degrees is the most Ive seen on a taco. If you have no lift probably 3 degree shims if any at all are needed, 2-3" lift would be where a 4 or 6 degree shim would be needed. The problem is that in order to get a vibe-less driveshaft, the angle of your fist shaft out of the transmission to the carrier bearing should be something like 4-6 degrees down, and then the angle at the diff going up needs to match that with 3-5 degrees up, up to one degree of difference between both is acceptable, but anything more than about 1.5 degrees is likely to have vibes. I know because my truck had terrible vibes before I had the axle shim installed, had a 3 degree shim installed first with a 2.5" lift and vibes arent totally gone but much better so I'm thinking a little more shim is needed. An angle finder can be used to quickly verify where all your angles are at before/after as well.

Did you add spacers under the driveshaft carrier housing when you did the lift?

it would be helpful if people posted built dates maybe we can narrow it down . I'm also wondering if it's just the OR model getting the shims.

Odd that they dont change the spring perches to correct the angle.

No I did not but I did order it, test drove it first to see if it was needed. So far all is good. I believe keeping the factory rake is important even when lifting. $.02

That's not a solution, and I'm pretty sure that guy had continuing issues. It takes time to get the angles right. Plus, that is a pretty long 1-piece driveshaft, balancing becomes critical. The rear vibrations started when Toyota took the CV out of the front of the driveshaft, which made it harder to adjust to the proper angles, and made it more sensitive to change.

I've got Dakers and 2 1/2" tapered blocks (3*) and 3/4" Carrier Bearing Spacer. Zero vibrations, zero howl. That was with stock 3.92's and now with 4.88's.

    Thanks for posting this.

As for the needle bearing, Tacoma's have had this issue since 95.5.
