Well I finally found time to take my truck in for its first service to fix all the usual problems mentioned on the forum. Figured I'd wait until they get my plates in....

Truck is a 2017 TRD OR CC with 1005 miles. The problems include:

    -Rough, shaky braking

-Rear end howl....howl while cruising above 40mph with a different audible howl upon release and application of throttle. Symptoms almost like that of a failing/non-lubricated rear end

-A-pillar rattle by passenger top speaker

-Finishing glue from production on passenger door panel

-Shudder, shaking during acceleration from approx. 15-35mph

-Check of all notorious fluids that were low from factory

    -All TSBs performed

Upon dropping the truck off I spoke with the service adviser who informed me that different production plants were opened for the Tacoma due to such high demand. He also elaborated on each plants trucks having a plethora of different TSBs and known problems. Some the same and some different. He let me look at the list of TSBs for my 2017 which was made in one of the USA plants and the only issue for mine was the Transmission update. Not the A arm plugs, etc.

I was then off to the rental counter where I received a 2017 Tacoma Limited.....WOW. This truck drives SO MUCH better than mine. No rear end howl, transmission shifted better, no weird interior noises, smooth brakes....I sure hope my truck can drive like this at some point.

UPDATE: Tech called and stated the front discs were warped and needed to be surfaced...(a 2017 truck came from the factory with warped discs apparently? Sigh...)

Transmission TSB performed...according to adviser this should take care of acceleration shudder/shake

A pillar rattle of course unfounded by tech lol

    Finishing glue removed

*All fluids checked and said to be correct level....I will be checking this either this weekend or the next. At this point I sort of don't trust anyone but myself regarding this truck

Rear end howl left off of service due to not being listed on the work order....why me? Informed him to send truck back to tech with new information on symptoms....will call me back tomorrow.

We will see how truck acts upon pickup....

That sucks, wonder if it was a Texas made truck or Mexican made.

That is a shame to hear it was a Texas made truck, thanks on the car!

Interesting. I hadn't realized Tacoma production was anywhere else other than San Antonio. A quick google search and I learn my '17 was built in Mexico (3TM), with no issues to date, knock-on-wood.

Does anyone know if the reported issues favor one plant over another?

It would be nice if we kept track of issues from each plant to see if things are different.

No real issues in a bit over 3,000 miles on my Texas Taco. When I go in for the 5k service I'll have them do the transmission TSB but it hasn't been enough of an issue to make a separate trip.

For the A pillar rattle, have you tried to push in on it yet? I had the same rattle, pushed it in towards the windshield and heard it pop back into place. It hasn't rattled since.

My 2017 had that breaking shudder but once I did the ECGS bushing it disappeared. Driveline vibe after lift between 15-30mph also cured by bushing. I don't notice the a arm howl everyone speaks of, maybe cause my tires hum and I listen to somewhat loud music. My truck must of been built on a Wednesday in Mexico . Mine is good otherwise. Love the truck.

    Just an update.

None of the issues except the production glue on the door were fixed.

Complete and utter waste of time. Currently exploring options to get out of the truck without taking to bad of a hit financially.

    Last toyota I ever own.

Not doing any bushings on a 2017 truck with 1000 miles that is less then a month old.

My 2017 was built in Mexico as well and I am experiencing almost everything on OP's list. My dealer said there is no TSB for my truck yet. Therefore, they refused to perform any work.

I wonder how did they check the TSB for your truck, OP?

Did you check your fluids? I would, it might help with the rear howl. I also might contact corporate and see about replacement rotors instead of cutting ones that should have been 100% on delivery.

    Other then that, bye.

Sorry, when I see that someone can't pick off some finishing glue themselves and have to bring it in to have it done they come across as a little to picky to me so I can't comment on the rest of your problems.

Sounds like my 2016 too. Which was from the Baja plant. My 17 is from Texas and has been perfect so far though it does need the control arm plugs but I don't think that's plant exclusive like your service manager alluded too.
