Ah an old time Toyota guy! Interestingly the prices have gone up on these trucks but the level of Quality Assurance seems not to be correlated to the price increase.

Smitty you think the problem is mostly related to the 3.5L V6 build?

I hardly read or hear about these problems on the 2.7L 4 Banger.

Maybe we should all be driving 4 Bangers?

It does seem like they dropped the ball on the 3.5, they have it across the company and just shoved it in the Tacoma even though its not a particularly good fit, something with low end torque would have been a better choice.

So while that kid up above figures out who one of the greatest metal bands of all time is....

I'll be creating a formal complaint to Toyota NA and figuring a day to go to my buddy's lift and start work on my brand new truck as if it's my old 22re, XJ, or YJ.

Well I don't think many people are buying 2.7s so that's part of the issue there. I'd guess 90% or more here are buying 6cyl. Some of the quality issues are not really a motor issue. Most of the complaints seem to be related to the 3.5L /tranny combo.

    The fuck?!? Picky buyer???

I just signed papers for a 17 tundra and I was picky as fuck... just as I was with my 08 Tacoma.

You mean to tell me you just go out and buy a 35k+ truck and say, it is what it is if it has issues or imperfections?? It's called buying new for a reason. If I wanted a used truck, I'd buy a used truck...

I understand the glue bs... but I'd want the dealer to do it too so if the door panel is scratched or jacked up in anyway, they replace it new... no way to document the glue jacked up the panel if you pick it off.

Love mine. Zero of the reported issues so far but I'm only at 1200 myself.

I am buying a 17 and my expectations are that it should be as good as my previous 3. The worst issue I had was a leaky power steering pump on my 2000, my 08 had a couple bulbs go out, and none of them had ever even had a check engine light come on.

Many on here like their trucks, but the main problem appears to be that if an issue DOES arise, Toyota would rather dodge the issue instead of actually fixing it.

The people who've been told "It's Normal" are too numerous to count, and you will see the same problem crop up over and over so it's not isolated.

Try not to froth at the mouth quite so much in your reply.

That is my biggest gripe. The service department takes no responsibility.

Sir the cyclical grinding sound from our crappy needle bearing, hell that's normal.

That is the shit that irks me.

Thanks. It's just very disconcerting when the majority of the posts on this board are very negative...starts my overactive imagination going and I think my truck is going to explode.

They are very vocal because one of the main reasons people purchase a Tacoma over something else is perceived reliability.

They could have bought a Frontier or a Canyorado for the same or fewer $$$$, but bought the Tacoma based at least partially on its sterling reputation.

When their new truck has a big problem and it's waved off as "Normal", it gets people talking and usually not in a happy way.

Once again, the issue seems to lie with Toyota's response to problems more than the actual problems (excepting the major driveline events that have occurred)

Hopefully Toyota will get the message and step up as I'm sure they can see what's happening.

The Tacoma loses every comparison test against the Canyorado twins, the ancient design Nissan Frontier has seen a major sales spike since the third gen came out, and the market is about to get new challengers from Ford and Jeep plus a completely redesigned Frontier.

If Toyota doesn't wake up and start taking care of these issues they will lose their trump card of perceived reliability, and someone else will be the new mid-size sales champ.
