    Hello my friend,
I am very inexperienced when it comes to truck modification. I am planning to upgrade the tires on my 2017 TRD Pro. The original set under the truck are Goodyear 265/70R16. I would like to replace them on the same wheel set to Toyo Open Country M/T 285/75R16.

My question is if with original suspension on TRD Pro, can I just swap the tires without worrying about trimming or lifting the truck? Or is it more complicated than that?

    Please help me.

Yes you can! I'm running 285/75 on my stock rims with my pro.

Pro wheels are offset less and stick out further. This will pose more issues with rubbing. 285/75/16 you will need to remove mud flaps, trim flares, CMC and will still get rub on cab mount on compression.

I don't have mud flaps. But the rest of that is unnecessary

Until you come down a 20 degree slope stuffing your tire to the bump stop, turn and chew a $220 tire ripping out the liner and fender flare.

    You stole my answer.

OP - Stick with 265/75/16 if you do intend to 4 wheel it and don't want to cut stuff.

Some with PROs have no problem. Others with PROs have problems.

You take the risk but I'd advise you, based on A TON of user feedback here, that you need to be ready to do some trimming and possible Cab Mount Chop to run 285s.

Everyone with a pro on here that I've seen with 285's is happy. Everyone else is hating

Does it rub anywhere. like upper support arm when fully turned? How about plastic parts inside the fender!

Do you like KO2 or Open Country M/T

    Thanks man.

Yes even he has stated they rub you can see where he said it here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/need-some-insight-trd-pro-owners.487284/#post-14962544

Here is ANOTHER post of someone with a PRO running 285s who had to modify to fit without rub: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...on-a-2017-trd-pro.456522/page-4#post-14861587

You seem to be an informed guy here! My problem with TRD Pro 265/70R16 Goodyear is that they are too small under the truck, almost toy-like. What would you recommend. Would you recommend the same size but Open Country M/T or even 255/85R16 instead of 285/75R16?

    Thanks

I would recommend sticking with a 265/70/17 or 265/75/16. If you want to go larger I would recommend managing your expectations that YOU WILL most likely have to do some trimming or cutting.

    Good luck!

Thanks for your almost instantaneous response. So 285/75R16 would work on pavement but not much off-road. how about add a 2in leveling kit on top of TRD Pro fox shocks?

This is the fallacy in the TRD PRO tire fit issue vs other Tacoma Trims. Lift alone does not increase the wheel well size and so you still run into issues that can be related to wheel offset, backspacing, etc affecting how the tire will fit and where it will lack clearance. This can be fixed by trimming plastic or in some cases a Cab Mount Chop is needed. Everyone's truck is slightly different, even within the same trim line, so there is no guarantee that because John fits 285/75/16s on his TRD Pro and doesn't have rubbing, that you will be 100% safe from rubbing on your own TRD Pro. There is no safe answer other than to run the sizes I mentioned, if you absolutely want to rule out the potential of having to trim, grind or cut.
