If you put a deposit ($500 or so) and you haven't finalized the price, do you get the deposit back if you can't agree on a price? Is that negotiable? Why would I put down a non-refundable deposit if the dealer doesn't even know what MSRP is?

Mine is refundable. If not I'll just file a claim with my credit card company but I'm buying the truck either way.
My salesman told me they don't sell trucks like they do in California and Phoenix, there won't be a mark up on mine. And if there is I'll just walk. I'm prepared to spend about $45k but no more than that, I just don't have the money.

It may be up to the dealer, but I have never heard of anyone losing the deposit in a situation like that. That would be stupid! Lol. They would never keep any loyal customers doing business that way. "Yeah go ahead and pay me, and I'll screw your eyeballs out, or you could decide to walk away and lose $500." I don't think so, lol.

Once you sign contract and give deposit I was told deposit is not refundable so I'd ask to make sure.

Absolutely! Never hurts to make certain before you lay the cash down. If the dealer does say it's non-refundable, I would turn and run, not walk.

New member here, I've been lurking on this thread for weeks being in the same boat as most and thought I'd share my news. I put my deposit on a cement MT PRO some weeks ago and just got the below digital monroney from the dealer I'm working with. I'm confident this is a dummy VIN as the last 6#'s are typically the production #'s, if they're manuf 3k PRO's then the last should be something like XXXXXXXXXXX001547. Still no MSRP or estimated delivery date but I'm told they'll begin actual production in coming weeks so I'm guessing delivery Sep/Oct timeframe (I HOPE!)

Side note: I doubt XXXXXXXXXXX000001 or XXXXXXXXXXX003000 will make it to the public, typically specialty/low production vehicles like these are kept by the manuf. I wish someone had a picture of the VIN on the cement truck displayed at the Chicago Auto Show, just curious.

My dealer's inventory person printed out something like that for me on one of the Pro's on the production schedule. It had a VIN, but I assume that it was a temporary internal for Toyota's use in production.

I would assume it's bogus, just as last years was when I was waiting for my Sport.

My VIN looks pretty much like yours.

a alpha character in the last 6 characters of a vin means its a placeholder vin and not an actual valid vin.

the last 6 characters of a valid vin is always a number.

The inventory manager at the dealer I'm working told me the build week on my Pro is week 35, which means it should be built around end of August/early September. Then it'll be delivered three weeks after that. When it gets closer he'll have an actual build date.

Everyone is getting so many manuals.. Coming from a '15 STi with a hand-built racing transmission I can't imagine buying a Tacoma with a clunky truck transmission. To each his his own but driving one of these with a manual transmission doesn't sound fun to me.

Just got confirmation my TRD Pro Cement is on allocation. Here is my optional equipment sheet. I'm curious to hear what other optional equipment is available. Anyone have that info?

I went over the optional equipment with the inventory manager today and I didn't see anything new in the system from the 2016 options. This may change down the road.
What do you think about those side steps? I think they might look cool but I'm worried about clearance issues. They cost like $700 something too. The aluminum side steps look nice too, kinda like what the Raptor has.

I received some bad news on my Tacoma Pro today: So the deposit on the MT I placed awhile back was not ordered before all the MT's were gobbled up. So of the speculated 3k TRD Pro's they're building, 5% are going to be MT's and they're ALL GONE! The somewhat good news is they're getting, and I have the right or refusal to lockdown the one closest to my build request in cement but its any AT. I'm debating to negotiate a deal on a MT at a trim level below the TRD Pro, whatever that may be. The 2017 site is not up to see whats other models are being offered.

Here's what they shared on the TRD Pro in cement they have coming which is mine unless I pass::: This is already on there allocation, delivery Sep 7th to dealership.

I really hope that isn't true. I was just contacted a dealer about a 2017 PRO MT yesterday. I told him I would put down a deposit. He said he'd look into it. Guess that might be why a SALESMAN hasn't yet returned my call, huh?
