2017 TRD PRO, who's waiting?

This was meant for those that are specifically saying "LOL @ the idiots paying 10k more than what I paid for my OR. The msrp between a pro and a sport hover just north of 5k. Well worth it in my book. Now, if you're dealer is marking them up, then please try to compare apples to apples.

 

I've ran the numbers on my own. When I built a 2017 OR DCLB (which was what I would have gotten if not for the Pro), I was only $3k less than the what I paid for the Pro. I'm cool with that. It is a badass truck with a resale value higher than any OR that rolls off the lot.

 

Thats my rationale. For those lucky enough to have dealers selling at msrp, its a no-brainer to swing the pro if possible.

 

The document I actually signed is actually $100 less than the MSRP online.

 

Anybody's 2017 Pro come with Door Sill protectors? Mind posting a pic. I ordered these from toyota based on what was avail for Pro VIN number and they only came with the emblem...At least my 2010 sills said "Tacoma".

 

When I picked up my pro on Monday, I saw a DCLB 4x4 trd sport with all the options. It was stickered at 40K. I paid 42 and some change for my pro but my sticker was 44k. The extra $2XXX was well worth the leather and exclusive color, much less everything else on it. The one and only thing I wish that the truck had is JBL. Other than that I'm 100% happy with the buy. I might go with the OEM+ system they are selling.

 

I may have to fly over to Texas. I emailed all the dealers around town and no luck. (They try to get me to buy something else) S. Cali sucks.

 

Picked mine up yesterday and installed husky mud guards. 20% tint front and back set for Monday. Going to get factory roof rack installed soon. Ordering Weathertechs tomorrow, I'm hoping that the 2016 fit will work.

 

I parked my pro next to a 17 OR and using my eyeballs measurement tool the pro sits about 1" higher.

Mine was a bit over $4xxx compared to a fully loaded OR @ msrp. I talked to 4 dealers in my local area before the pro and all wanted near full msrp (~-$200) for fully loaded OR.

I had a Frankenstein suspension setup on my previous FJ with toytec boss coil overs and 3" lift, the fox 2.5 shocks ride so much smoother on/off-road.

It's funny didn't I read somewhere that the cement color is supposed to be the rareist? But most of the pros posted here as well as a search on Cars.com have been cement? Seems red followed by white are far and few between.

 

I've only heard of dealers up here getting in Cement. I originally ordered a White but with no time-frame switched dealers to a Cement which should be arriving within 5 weeks.

 

I was mulling over the white Pro as well, but in the end I decided on Cement since it is an exclusive color to 2017 Pro's (including Tundra and 4 Runner). Toyota has had the Cement color before, but not in this shade. If you see the Cement color on the road, you know it's a Pro!

 

I'm considering painting my door handles matte black to match the fender guards. I'm thinking the Cement doors with the black door handles will complement the look. Thoughts?

 

As I've said earlier the truck is great. Coming from a 2008 TRD off-road first stock, then with icons 2" lift then with billsteins a bit higher running 285/75s for nearly its entire life. This truck blows it away in every possible way. The ride is super smooth both onroad and off-road. The reality is running 265/75's with the minor lift provided by the pro stock factory ride height is all I need. My old truck rode like a dump truck compared to the pro. For those of you who ride dirt bikes it's like sending your suspension out for a revalve and it coming back feeling buttery smooth.
Also the interior is amazing. Again as I said before paying nearly 40k for a fully loaded off-road vs paying 42,700 for the pro the choice was extremely easy for me and I'm glad I went with it.

Paying above msrp for anything is rediculous when you can find them for at or under msrp if you look around fairly easily.

 

Wanted to get about 500 miles on her and then offer first impressions. As compared to 2010 OR.
Had several people ask, "what do you like most about it?" - A) The factory suspension and LIFT w/ warranty while sustaining improved gas mileage. I'm averaging 20.3 mpg on my commute to work in heavy stop and go traffic and some open road. 19.2 on ride home which includes climbing to the top of the Appalachian mtn range.

Pros:
- Haven't had it OR yet but it feels so much better on some rough sections under construction around here. Holes I used to swerve around feel like a man hole cover. Can't wait to get her in the colorado back country.
- The TRD exhaust is sweet, just the right amount of growl, although I do believe the newly installed OEM mud flap deflects a few decibles away from the cabin.
- Liking the S mode alot.
- Always wanted Leather seats w/ front heaters...come on ole man winter.
- Tire Pressure read out in center instrument panel is nice feature. Not just low indicator but shows actual PSI for all 4 tires. I air down for beach/sand driving and just being able to check from the cab on a periodic bases is very convenient.
- Ride height and larger dimensions remind me very much of my brothers T100.
- Easy down tail gate makes me grin, its also beefier than the 2010 with an easily replaceable scuff guard across the top lip.
- Ample bed light which can be toggled on or off or both when door is open is nice. 2010 did not have a cargo area light, just break lamp.
- Its a minor thing but the shark fin antenna is certainly better than having to take off the fixed stem at car washes and such.
- I'm also enjoying all the other factory cosmetics which i wanted to do with my 10 OR.
- Blue dash panel lighting is easier on my eyes, especially at night, vs the orange.
- Lastly although my VIN is listed on the automatic shift issues TSB, I am NOT experiencing any issues with lag from park/reverse to drive, harsh shifts, etc. I haven't used the cruise control yet but the shift patterns seem smooth as butter compared to my 2010 which did have a few quirks. Hoping its already had the flash update and stays that way.

Cons:
- The console area doesn't seem quite as convenient. The 2010 had more room for phones/change cases/pocket knife kinds of things but with the parking break now in the console instead of the left foot push, it eats up your knick nack holdings, I also liked the hard plastic trim around the shifter which was easier to clean. The leather sock around the Pro's shifter and hand break will collect crud and no doubt get holes at the crease points eventually but thats relatively minor. The hand break does have certain OR/tactical applications over the foot push parking break.
- Slightly low idling point when stopped in traffic in drive, especially with AC running. Enough engine mutter to cause the sun visors to jiggle. Will mention this at first oil change if it continues.
- I guess the skeewp adds some charm but it kinda detracts from your visibility especially in an OR application. I could do without it just fine.
- The glove holder recesses in the bed walls above the wheel wells are gone. Those were small but useful pockets for chain saw wrenches, headlamps and such.

Added OEM mud flaps and door sill protectors. Husky liners on order. Not sure if I want to put my bolt on sliders back on this one. I love the look without them but they have come in handy on a few logs/stumps and the mall crawl door dinger...also debating putting the OEM roof rack on this one.

If I get some time this weekend I'm gonna put the soft topper on her to see how it looks.

Thats it, every thing else I love about this truck. Bring on the sand, snow, elk hunting trips, soccer games, and camping adventures with the fam!

One of our neighbors on the street has a TRD PRO Tacoma (replaced his Pro Tundra), PRO 4 Runner, 2 Mirais.
