I second this. These are the same overlays Toyota sells as the ‘blackout package’ so it’s a factory-quality fit.

What did you guys use to clean the badges before putting the overlays on? Also, how warm do you think it needs to be to get good adhesion? We are hitting about the 50s is all for highs here in MN and don't know if we'll get back to 70+ still this season or not. Looking doubtful. Debating whether to put them on now or wait until spring at this point.

You’re fine in the 50s. Give the existing badges a quick wipe down with isopropyl alcohol to get rid of any wax/oils, then dry and apply.

OK. What about the TACOMA insert letters for the tailgate? Is that safe to use on paint to clean those up too before applying?

Yeah, I used a little 70% isopropyl to clean the tailgate insert area before installing mine. I didn’t end up using the tailgate inserts from this kit though. I already had the matte black inserts from @rrentrop (TVDvinyldecals.com), which I prefered over the raised gloss inserts.

I used 92% Isopropyl alcohol, used a couple Q-Tips do get the sides and in between the letters just to make sure they were clean.

I know they say 2018 and up... will they not fit a 2017? Are the emblems a different shape on the 18s?

They only say 2018 because it doesn’t include the grille emblem (because of the new TSS emblem on the 2018s). Everything in this kit will fit a 2017 - you’ll just be left with the chrome grille Toyota emblem.

I uhh...peeled the stickers off. Does that count?
Has anyone just marked off the badge location, taken the badges off, painted then, and then glued them back on the truck? If so, how did that work?

I bought a set from Toyota McDonough on Amazon. Haven’t put them in as I’m waiting for weather to warm up this weekend. So far they look good though. Just beware on eBay because Sellers are claiming they’re selling overlays but they’re actually emblems. Had to return twice due to false advertisements before I found the right item on Amazon!

If you glue them on, taking off the emblems after that will result in taking paint with them. You can use 3m tape, but you'll have to have surgeon like hands to cut it exact so you won't see the tape.

I saw what they were charging for the overlays and said forget that, I just took all the emblems off. Looks much cleaner.

Any reason people are preferring the overlays vs new black emblems? I’m with the OP and want my letter As and such to have holes in them. What’s wrong with the aluminum badges?

Is the 4x4 that comes in the overlay kit an overlay also? I don’t like my V6 being lonely and would like to add the 4x4 emblem as well.

It's just easier, I think. I ended up taking my V6 off for that exact reason. Unless you get right up on the side overlays, you can't really tell there's not a hole there.

i have the SR5 (2), Limited (2), 4x4, and V6 overlays from the 2018 SE Toyota kit. I have no use for them and they're just sitting in a box. Let me know if you want any of them. Just pay postage or meet up locally (i think i'll send them in the small, 2 day, priority flat rate box).

    Edit: V6 has been claimed

That was the only annoying part. Mine are just sitting around as well.

With the overlays you just stick them on top and you are done. With emblems you have to completely remove the originals (including the sticky tape) and then hope to place the new ones correctly. Much more of a hassle.
