I didn't read thru 10 pages but it wouldn't surprise me and I'd buy one tomorrow if they did it.

I read a while ago they were looking at a similar setup the Titan got for the tundra. Nissan also built the concept Frontier with the Cummins. Maybe the tacoma will get one?.

Cummins needs to find a market since Ram/fiat is looking to get rid of them. big mistake in my mind. Most guys, me included buy a ram for the Cummins, not for the truck . They are already running an in-house diesel in the 1500 and iirc the contract with Cummins expires in 17.

I won't be making plans, but I would trade if they do

Toyota doesn't care about the diesel market here. For years I have seen bullshit diesel articles posted here and other places about the Tacoma. You buy a Tacoma for reliability. Modern diesels have so much electronic crap on them that Toyota doesn't wanna mess with them.

Yep, I can't believe this thread is still alive or that people seriously think toyota will put a diesel in the tacoma. Though I would gladly take the diesel hilux here.

Toyota has a LARGE diesel market all over the world. So I not sure how you came to that conclusion. They don't push it in the USA because the market hasn't been there. With the new epa/mpg standards a lot of automakers are changing their views. You can't argue the mpgs power and longevity of a diesel. My lifted ram 3500 dually on 37 mud tires got the same mpgs as my 16 tacoma.

When the market cares about diesels, Toyota will care. If the GM twins sell a lot of diesels, Toyota will offer one. If not, then they won't. I'd be surprised if they go the Cummins route, since they have their own diesel engine technology.

The chief engineer, seatbelt mike said why they weren't having a diesel option. How much more evidence do you need. And exactly Toyota has had diesel options everywhere but here for a long time.

Opinions change. Ford has said for years they won't bring the Ranger or bronco back and look what they are doing. I'm not saying I think it's going to happen. Just that the possibility is there, Nissan is doing it. Chevy is doing it. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that toyota would. They have the technology, Cummins is looking, and with new standards it would make sense

Valid points. I bet we see a hybrid before anything else though.

I'm all for high 20/Low 30 mpg, 16 to 20 mpg is kind of a joke in 2016.

I've been wondering about this. Toyota is the king of hybrids and they left an awful lot of room under the hood of the Tacoma. Could help with the low-end torque. Would definitely help with real city MPG like I drive everyday. Not sure where the batteries would go.

Diesel would be nice too, or at least some turbos. Betting hybrid shows up in a few years though.

seat belt Mike may just be held to not letting out any ideas that they are looking at it. This may be correct if they changed their mind since October but strong inside whispering said that model year 18 Tacoma would get diesel. If so I think we would see it come Feb in Chicago auto show. They may have backed off again.

Forget about Toyota and diesels in America. Not going to happen. Toyota has no plans, zero to bring a diesel to the states
