I am going to ask you simple question .... Do you know what is the GPH rate of Powerstroke engine at idle ?
Go find out, you may be surprised how more efficient that engine is. Go ahead...

Its not over here, now I am looking at gas buddy and it shows me gas price of 1.93 for Regular and 2.15 for Diesel in Worcester MA.
So what part of Worcester are you in that has that high Diesel ?
BTW Premium fuel is showing $2.55 ...
So plug premium price to get best mileage, and Diesel price and lets see that calculation again.

    Wut?

Who cares? You want to know the idle rate of a 3.5 L shutoff? Yeah, you can shut off a gas engine and restart it hot without any mpg penalty. If you are so worried about idling fuel consumption how about trying that?

As for the average fuel economy... well you pull those numbers yourself quite often so I don't see how you can't admit that the fuelly numbers for the Powerstoke are no where close to those for the 3.5 L 2GR IRL.

    1) I'm not in Worcester
    2) That's simply not true prices IRL. Diesel has consistently been $2.50 - $2.65 for the past few weeks here. Those prices for diesel were the lowest they got up here in years which was December or so.
    3) Premium here is $0.20 more than regular here, so premium is about $2.20 - $2.30
    4) Just because premium gets best mileage doesn't mean it has the best value.

    Wut?

The Tacoma doesn't take premium... so why are you even doing that

That's like me saying "hmm, let's go to China to get our Diesel because it's cheaper there. Factor in that to your calculation." Come on @BlueT, usually you make more sense than this but you're stretching so far...

He's really stretching trying to justify a Diesel. He loves Diesels. There's nothing wrong with that. At this point though now he's just manipulating the math as much as he can to try and get Diesels to work for everyone or even just the average person... when under the current regulations they don't work for the average person. Not financially anyways.

Gotta say I love diesels too but only in 2 specific circumstances for passenger vehicles.
    1) being a HD truck, 2500 or 3500.
    2) IF you could get a small diesel WITHOUT emissions crap, like a 2007 or older Cummins 4bt, or any of the VW engines from that same time period.
If I could get a Tacoma with a diesel that does not have all the EPA required crap on it, I would jump on that in a heartbeat. That's just not a reality.

I care, because when you sitting in front of Holland tunnel in NYC moving 1 MPH for 2-3 hours you idle and burn fuel. You not gonna shut off engine its complete BS. if I am going to NYC or if I am going to Boston I will be sitting in front of the tolls, it can take me 1 hour just to cross a bridge. All that fuel is wasted during idle. No shutting down engine in that traffic.

Heavy traffic, thats where that low idle efficiency comes to play. Fuelly numbers for gasoline are screwed because different fuels. In 2 gen numbers you have mine. I got almost 22 MPG on 1000 mile run and that is running DCLB 4x4 V6. Yeah but I run that using Shell Premium on the NJ Turnpike at night..
Yet 1000 miles at 22 MPG average

...and yet you ignored literally everything I said...

This is going nowhere and has 0 applicability anymore. I'm not about to argue over something that has no real chance of happening anytime soon

Agreed. Honestly if we were talking about a Diesel before current emissions standards the situation is very different.

Same with the heavy duty trucks. Once you get close to 10,000 lbs you should really be considering a Diesel. Then again at that weight you aren't trying to move anything fast and fuel economy becomes key if you are going to move that sort of weight regularly.

How often do you drive into NYC?

Why would you even want to take a truck into NYC?

You claimed that price of $2.50 for Diesel and $2.00 for gasoline is correct, I called BS and posted Gasbuddy screen shots.
Now you are upset because you got caught.
    Ok.. Got it. :D

Because I am in TRI state area. So many of us do business or have offices in NYC.
Also plenty of family or friends or just taking kids to see Lion King Broadway show or Christmas tree at Rockefeller. There are many reasons to go to NYC.
So we all do go there.
Its part of the drive like it or not.

Why take truck?, until recently that was my daily driver (commuter), and I get parking in NYC so why not.

You'd take a Powerstroke in NYC then?

Anyways, I'm done here. We are reaching the point of full on stupid. You win @BlueT. Everyone should drive a Diesel. The new Colorado Diesel is gods vehicle. In 4-5 years, people will be chanting your name in the streets of NYC as the liberator and champion of the Deezul race.

I don't care who drives Diesel, just post crap that is real.
So far fake calculations and assumptions that are not true.
If Diesel was not better than everybody would have switched to gasoline engine all around. Clearly despite higher price to purchase for a Diesel vehicle, they must be better if they sell in the numbers they do, right.

Oh and Powerstroke idle GPH supposed to be around 0.2-0.3 GPH while my Tacoma with 1GR can do only 0.34 GPH

That Powestroke is one helluva efficient engine, 0.2 GPH gives you over 33% improvement over 1GR.
my 5.7 out of Tundra gets 0.5-0.6 GPH Hence 8-10 MPG in heavy traffic. :D
Now lets see if somebody can grab idle from 2016 Tacoma.

Hell my 2tr tacoma is being compared to semis and huge buses now! I bet I still make more power to weight and mpg though... And with less emissions... And more comfort.... Wait why are we comparing large scale heavy equipment used in businesses and midsize personal trucks?

Oh also both semi and buses industries are attempting to leave deisel motors for anything else because of the EPA. They are making leaps and bounds with it too! https://www.freightlinertrucks.com/Trucks/Alternative-Power-Trucks/Natural-Gas/

I expect a 5-10% decrease in efficiency IF they can come up with a fix, which would reduce my Golfs MPG from 48 to around 40, which is still pretty good. However, diesel's still rule in not producing greenhouse emissions, unlike gassers. It's the NOx that (literally) kills it.
