Ford's really been pulling their weight lately and upping their game. If they came out with a new Ranger with an Eco-Boost I'd be very interested. (Engine swap. :p)

I loved mine too but the year I bought was so behind the Tacoma in tech it wasn't even funny lol. This will be the opposite situation. Thing is though I paid almost nothing for it compared to a Tacoma. It never failed me. Ford let the Ranger wither on the vine because it had OK fleet sales. If it wasn't for the fleet sales it would of died out in 2005.

My Pops has one. Last year they made it. It's a solid little truck. Won't win any tractor pulls, but with his bum knee it gets him in the Handi-Capable parking just fine without having to Austin Power the shit out of it.

I had a 1998 Ranger before my Tacoma

Thing was a tank...sure it was a little low tech, but it was reliable as hell and fantastic on gas

I think we might be in a club of sorts together but we have never met. There is a certain member who loves to trash Fords from the radio. Particularly their "aluminum frames". I'd love to take a new Ranger out and spank it around in front of those types.

I say bring it. Tacoma has had too little competition in this arena for quite a while.

Toyota builds Corolla's in Turkey. What's your point lol.

Home base for the Ranger is in South Africa, Argentina, and Thailand.

While I make fun of my partner with his 2015 Eco-Boost I can still respect quality. I give credit where credit is due regardless of brand. And Ford's been doing good.
Besides, why don't they make steel planes? Cause Aircraft grade aluminum is strong as fuck as light as sin.

Why is everyone on here crapping all over the 3.5ltr the 2016 tacomas are getting but then on this thread talking about how amazing a lame 2 liter ford motor is? I thought this was a Tacoma forum. If any of us really gave a crap about gas mileage you'd be driving a Prius or a Honda not a truck. Even my old 22r didn't get that great a mileage

Was a fan of the Ford Ranger!Owned 2 of them. The potential 2018 Ranger though looks like a continuous trend of new ugly manufactured mid size trucks.Oh well it's obviously not just about apperance feature's.

Uh, because maybe if you knew anything about motors you'd realize the 2.7 L has over 300 HP and 300 ft lbs of torque. I'd call 30% more power than the Toyota 3.5 L a bit exciting if it happens lol. It has nothing to do with fuel economy. The 2.7 L is a twin turbo beast that has a nearly flat torque curve and is prefectly suited for a small truck, if Ford uses it.

Huh, 325 hp at 5750 rpm and 375 tq at 3000 rpm is FAR from lame.... Put the 3g's numbers in next to that to see lame.

Lame is the last word I'd use for anything in the Ecoboost lineup lol. Goes to show you how some people don't follow anything but Toyota, which is sort of sad.

Agreed. Here's the icing on the cake... 19/26/22 those are the mpg numbers in their 4x2 f150. Mo power and mo better MPG's. Merica.

I have recently seen in our area: Small businesses and local governments used to buy Rangers. Then when they stopped making them, Tacoma was the only small/mid option, so they started buying Tacomas (which I liked). Now, just in the last few weeks I have seen several new municipality and small business owned new Colorados. So, it can be derived that Ford has lost a lot of customers to GM with their hiatus. Toyota was okay as a temporary replacement when nothing else was available, but businesses and municipalities like to buy "American" products. (rightfully so...)

I have driven Rangers in South Africa and have owned a Hilux there. Hilux is still the top seller, but Ford is very close. Very nice trucks.
I have also owned a 99 Ranger here in the States and I have actually loved it. The only reason for selling it was when I had to go to double cab Tacoma due to growing family.
