best advice so far is get cheap obdII adapter and phone app. ebay worked fine for me. avoid bluetooth and usb. go wifi and everything will work no matter what you do.
free phone, tablet and PC apps available, and some are very good - look around, but for literally a few dollars you can pay for very good apps like fusion or torque.
i'll be checking out the free techstream posted. one more to add to the collection of apps. thanks.
start with cheap wifi adapter. example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-ELM32...ostic-Scanner-For-iOS-Android-PC/184124730006

edit: that is just an example. many to choose from. you can probably avoid china shipping.

i just downloaded and scanned for viruses the zip. windows defender claims Trojan:Win32:Occamy.AA severe.
it is probably the keygen triggering it. i don't know if is real or not. instructions say ignore virus alerts. maybe, maybe not. worth letting others know though.

I have the exact same brand one you linked. Works amazing and you can find it on Amazon for about $20 IIRC. Set aside $10 for a good phone app to connect and read the data and you'll be able to do alot.

    No worries.

Yes. The key gen file freaks the a/v out. You gotta shut it all down from ZIP extraction and until the activation is finished. Hundred of folks including me have DL'ed and installed this. Not one problem as been posted other than the virus warnings.

I get the same warnings when installing other ECU software or OVT / vF stuff.

There is another route that @cameleon50 and @lapoltba had posted for TS V15. I have not given it a go yet. There are no a/v warnings, but you need to sign up and active on a certain forum to get a valid key code.

yeah, probably ok but keygens were a traditional place to hide viruses for 20 yrs. just a note of caution. i appreciate the pointer.

OP: Here is what the ScanGauge II looks like next to an iPhone 11 pro which is not the big model. It does a lot of stuff.

No problem. It is all about sharing good and pertinent info. Not to mention the right to repair movement.

If you, or anyone else, finds a problem beyond the warnings themselves, please document and let me know. I will remove the share in a heartbeat.

i do similar by mounting old iphone on dash, similar to you, and run a wifi app. no dedicated display needed but old phone is. sometimes i mount a tablet.
gets me huge amount of info in colorful gauges and histories etc, even with multiple pages of them. i only use on long trips. novelty wears off around town :)

edit: BTW...these things are not just for play. before i got the taco, i had a problem with another car. experts on forums were convinced it was a vacuum issue. my "smoke" testing indicated not but was not sure. after reading up and understanding O2 sensors, fuel trims and MAF, etc., i was able to diagnose a sticking fuel injector. very counter intuitive when looking at OBDII codes thrown, but once understood, and with info i got from OBDII apps, it was a piece of cake to fix.
would have cost $$$$$$ at a shop.
so, moral of story: not just for play. same OBDII adapters i used then worked on taco. i do have a usb version for garage use which gave me better access to PC apps
where i did diagnosis. i use wifi going down the road.

Ya I mostly only hook this stuff up when I go wheeling or people will break into the truck at night and steel the stuff.

I only have the GoPro 3 White and so you can not monitor it with the iphone while recording but you can at least make sure it’s in the right place before you start.

I used a $20 Veepeak Bluetooth adapter and the OBD Fusion app for a while and it worked ok. Ended up getting a $50 OBDLink LX later on because my BMW motorcycle didn't like the cheap Veepeak and only displayed a small bit of information, something about sample speeds being too low.

Here is a good thread about how to use the OBD Fusion app with whatever scanner you get.
