New TW member here. I am looking to remove all chrome from my Cement OR Tacoma. However, I have been unable to find any forums on blacking out the stock 2018 OR grill. Has anyone attempted this? Just was wondering how it looked and if you can take the emblem apart since it has that plastic cover on it.

I would just rough up the chrome surround on the 18 grille and paint it black.

Or their are the aftermarket options, Pro, SR..

    Congrats on the new Cement!

Thanks! Yea, I was thinking about derping the chrome around the outside. The emblem is the main thing I was not sure about since it appears to be in some type of plastic case. Anyone know if this can be taken apart? Not looking to go aftermarket just yet.

That is the Toyota Safety Sense behind the plastic case. I have not seen anyone take it apart to black out the Toyota emblem. I think it would look good just leaving that part chrome. Black out your Tacoma badges, get the MESO side markers, and SR bumper end caps!

The grille is in four separate parts: the bodycolor surround, the chrome trim ring, the main grille, and the emblem. You can dismantle them and just paint what you want. The emblem in particular is very easy to snap in and out. The grille itself is tedious to get out (lots of little tabs) but don't worry if you break a few tabs because it's ACTUALLY held on by screws, and the tabs seem to be mostly for locating it during assembly.

I kept the chrome ring and the chrome emblem and I think it balanced out okay, but it's pretty easy to pick which bits you want to do. Once it's apart it takes just a couple of minutes to rattlecan.

I blacked out the chrome surround on mines with plastidip just to see how it’ll look. Pretty happy with it so I think I’ll paint it one day.

Yea I like that a lot! I will just pant the surrounding chrome with pasti dip and the bump caps for now. Emblems are currently plasti dipped. I will make more permanent changes later down the road.

Also, does the Toyota Safety Sense easily come off when taking off the grill? I haven't looked that closely at mine but most videos I have watch do not mention that and the grill itself looks super easy to remove.

Yeah super easy. There’s a plug so you can disconnect the TSS when you remove the grill.

You can also replace just the chrome ring with the black ring from the SR grille. The plastidip is going to chip. It's not a permanent solution. There is a part number somewhere on here. Not many have changed it out yet, but the ones I've seen make it look way cleaner.

IMG_8814.jpg IMG_8815.jpg IMG_8813.jpg Super easy to derp the chrome surround. Took me about an hour and a half with 6 coats of plastidip. 30 minutes to remove and put back together and an hour of painting.

Any pointers removing the chrome surround from the main grille? I don't want to break any necessary clips. I'm going the SR bezel route. Yours looks dang good.

Just do them one at a time and go around the perimeter. I used needlenose pliers, they aren't very fragile.

dont plasti-dip it, just paint it. I spent alot of time plasti-dipping mine (did like 6 coats + satinizer) and a piece chipped off. wish i just painted it

Like others have said, take your time on the clips. I used needle nose pliers as well. It took me awhile to figure out which clips were for the grill and which ones were for the surround. Just look up a pic/video to save some time on which clips are for what. The clips are surprisingly flexible. I didn't break any removing mine.

Thanks for the ideas. I would love to buy the SR bezel but not planning on buying any aftermarket parts just yet. Definitely will in the future, but my wife probably will not be too happy with me if I start replacing the stock parts with aftermarket parts since she surprised me with this truck.
