They are the black OEM oval 5" ones I got from the dealership as part of the deal. I like them but kinda worthless as an actual step

Thanks. Mine came with the Predator step tubes and I've never been a big fan of them...Don't use them as a step either and they're really just in the way when getting in or out.

Anyone got some tips for better paint adhesion to the surround? This chrome is like paint kryptonite. I'll scuff it to hell, spray it with adhesion promoter, self etching primer, then several coats of paint and clear coat and it's only a matter of a few weeks before there's a bunch of chips in it.

I thought maybe derp would work but sounds like some of you have had that chip off it too.

Yea I was planning to paint or derp too but didn't want to deal with it happening either. Ended up buying the SR trim on eBay 15% from one of the dealerships on there

Damnit I'd hate to have to spend another $100 customizing my grille. I'll take a look, thanks for the heads up!

I'm not recommending it or looking to do it myself, but had anyone tried this method using bleach to strip the part to bare plastic?

I used bleach to strip the chrome off of my headlight reflectors. Only took a couple hours.

That might be the best route, I know that some other guys have sand blasted the components to get the chrome off as well. Bleach sounds a little easier to access though haha

I’m in the middle of installing my black grille surround and have run into an issue. The TSS plug is seem to be stuck and will not disable. Any tips on unplugging the sensor?

The plug at the actual TSS or the plug up at the top of the grill, by the hood latch?

Yup, that one can be tricky. Whenever I remove my grille, that one fights me too. There is a Christmas tree pin that holds the wire harness to the support. You can use your fingers or a set of needle nose pliers to squeeze the little locking tabs together and push it out. This frees up the wire loom enough so you can roll the connector over to get a good view of it, and get a good grip on it. At this point, you should be able to push down the locking latch while you pull on the male and female connectors and slip them apart.
Also, keep in mind, if you forget to reconnect this section of harness when you re-assemble, you will get a warning message on your dash when you start the truck. No big deal, shut off, reconnect, then restart and you're good to go.

    Hello,

I am interested in removing my chrome bezel/moulding around the grill. I think it looks great. I went to the dealer and they stayed that once you unhook they anti collision sensor on the grill, it needs to be recalibrated aka it won’t work properly. Does anyone have any experience or comments regarding this?

They are just trying to get more $ outta you. It's their job to make $ so upselling is part of the game. Just order from one of the online Toyota dealers & put it in yourself. Easy swap & really does change the look of your truck.

Google part #52711-04010 & look for toyota dealer in your part of the country for best shipping price also

I swapped my bezel out a year ago and have had zero problems.
