My 91 and 86 didn't have the lean, fuel filler and tank was on the passenger side. My 99 and 04 did have the lean, already have a spacer in the 16.

I fixed mine; mounted my hilift, tools and store the spare water and fuel cans on the passenger side.

So if it isn’t a weight issue left to right then what do you think causes the lean to the left?

No idea. If it was weight though Why wouldn’t all cars lean? If it was weight why does it still lean with an empty driver seat and empty fuel tank? Why does it not sit level with a 200# passenger sitting only in the passenger seat?

If it was weight why does my fender measure 0.5” lower on the driver side yet with a level sits perfectly level using a tool all the way down from bumper to bumper.

I have an upgraded suspension which can more than handle the weight of the vehicle yet my measurements are the same.

The only answer I have that’s 100% certain is that weight has nothing to do with it.

    Quick update:
As per Toyota: Nothing to be done in regards to the leaning taco. Period. Anything I do aftermarket is on me.
I better not comment this as I am still fuming...

The engine vibrations are not reproducible. Funny... He confirmed misfires but that's not a real fault. Biting my tongue here too.
SD Card: No new database. I can buy a new one end of the year...
I fixed the license plate holder and the top cover strip.

I better get a beer to calm down now...

I run 93 in my truck due to the engine vibrations. Fixes it completely. Sucks to have to run premium, but ultimately it's the lesser of evils.

Ive been stalking this forum for awhile and finally made an account cause I feel like I need to weigh in as well. Ive noticed a lean only on the bed since I’ve had it. Kinda thought I was just nuts, and I’ve read all about the taco lean too. I decided to lift recently to 2” front and 1” back. I still notice it, maybe more now. I measure and found that my rear passenger is 39.5” and rear driver is 37.5” but front is both even at 37.25”. Unfortunately, I didn’t get measurements before the lift, but the hardware is consistent on both sides and I can see no difference in installation between both sides. Does anyone know if you can loosen and level just the bed of the truck?

Always heard about the taco lean but never knew it was from excess weight on the driver side. I guess that just seemed like too simple of an answer and easily correctable, lol.

Good to know. I haven't noticed a lean on my Taco (yet) but now I know which side of the truck I'll favor anytime I'm adding weight.

Put a couple of fat hoes on the right side of the bed (not in the cab, they might eat the seats) and drive through Taco Bell once a day and get the 5 for 5 to keep them plump. Problem solved.

Wow my 2016 leans towards the passenger side...must have been made south of the equator where toilets swirl in the opposite direction.

Back for the dealership: Final answer-yes lean does exist. Nothing they can do.
But, I am interested in the secondary battery for the taco.
Is there a DIY out there on how to do this?

Also, can you guys point me to a good website for Tacoma parts like lift kits or leveling kits.
I am going to tackle this my way now...

Have you measured the distance between the body mounts at the front and rear to see if they've crushed at all? My 17' and 01' had the lean never fixed the 17 but I customized a shim for the 01.

And it's definitely weight related.... 160lbs of fuel, 160+ pound driver, + 40+ battery = 360lbs+ more on the drivers side. All the time. Forever.

When I removed the stock rear springs from my 01 the drivers side was noticeably under sprung compared to the passenger side.

But when you’re measuring for lean are you sitting in the drivers seat? No, so it’s not also the drivers weight affecting that side.

Well that's an asinine way of looking at it. it's the combined weight of everything on that side that puts the lean into the spring. Once that springs been overloaded or loaded enough times on that one side, it loses spring rate compared to the passenger side.

You can argue all you want but when I pull off my stock springs and they're measurably different from each other, the only way that that can happen is by excessive, or successive, loading of the spring on the driver side.

So, what is a feasible approach to solving the issue?
I tend to go with a leveling kit, but feel a lifting kit would be more advantageous.

We’re talking about a new truck with no one sitting in it, and it leans to one side. So tell me how a brand new truck can lean when no one has been driving it? Or are you saying in a very short time period you can sag springs on one side? You’re way more than 160lbs in that case.
