Dealer said need to tear down engine. Week or two job. Code said one piston is getting fuel a fraction of a sec before the the other. So piston, valve , heads not sure until further test down and inspect. A cylinder Imbalance to be specific. Thank God under extended warranty. Question. Would she be just as good coming out or further issues to come. Do I clear the code and take the huge trade in everyone is offering and get something new? I Know that sounds sketchy to do. But I dont want to get her back if this is a crack in her “tacoma bullet proof” armor

i thought these things lasted for every of treated right

    update: burnt valve
    Down 3 weeks
    Rental truck
    Repair estimate $3500
    $0 deductible
I’m so glad I bought extended warranty

so cylinder 3 is having issue. Not sure what code that is. Gave me 2022 Tacoma rental. I have to say. I was gonna trade mine in for a new one but after talking to the tech she’ll
Be like new again. I had them install new plugs since she’s apart anyway.

    7/22
Machine shop found no cracks in head but 4 burnt valves need replacement we are going into week 5

    8/15/22
finally got case manager from Toyota to take over my case. National part shortage for head gasket set was NO ETA but revised yesterday to 8/31/22. So it’ll be on the rack 9 weeks at least before she’s back home.

What is the code number that the scan revealed?

Curious why what you describe as a fuel injection issue requires a teardown to resolve. There's more to the story...........

For legal reasons, aside from ethical reasons, you don’t want to clear the code and sell it like that and then have proof in the internet (and with the dealer) that you knew of and actively concealed this issue. Why not get it fixed and then sell it after that? Shouldn’t be a big deal. No need to actively disclose or conceal the repair. This will show up in CarFax maybe anyway.

Why would that require an engine tear-down? Sounds like an injector/ECU problem. Could also be an ground/wire issue. Relative piston position to the others is not going to change unless you break the crank (which obviously didn't happen), and the valves do not dictate when the injector fires. Strange.

It’s math. If there are 3 million tacomas and 300 engine complaints in TW, that’s bulletproof. This site is an aggregator of the worst things that ever happen with a Tacoma. I will say though that the 4 cyl and 4 liter are probably way more reliable, but we won’t know that for many more years.

Its not math since the true numbers are unknown but I'm sure there is a LARGE population of people who have had motors issues and have never heard of Tacoma world.

WAT??? That, if you explained what they said properly, rates as one of the dumbest dealer/mechanic things ever said. The ONLY thing I can make of it is that it's a timing thing where the timing chain or tensioner has failed and the computer caught it.

im speculating as to the balance - my guess is it’s many more that have zero issues and the number of issues is tiny

I don’t know bro it runs perfect. He said I could probably drive it another 30k before issues start to go bad but you’d be out of extended warranty buy then. He said the computer did its job. Pick up a very slight Malifunction. We cleared code. Came back 2 days later. I have 100k 5 years. Or 25k or 10 months left. Thank God I always buy extended. It’s always paid for it’s self and then some. He said when it’s firing the code is saying one piston is getting fuel before the other. So why they have to tear down to inspect head casket, valves and cylinders I don’t know. That’s beyond my knowledge my friends

This sounds like the P11EC problem.

Uh huh. I haven't experienced that.

What I DO experience daily is an interior without wall-to-wall fake metallic looking plastic from the turn of the century.
