And for the record when i say 60 in a 25 obviously it's the type of corner that the recommended speed is a little conservative. I'm driving a lifted truck with mud tires I'm not that dumb. If you did 25 on this corner youd get honked at, still a tight corner but the road is banked perfectly and i would say the morjority of drivers take it at 45-50 comfortably all the time. Sorry that was a little deceiving I should have left the recommended speed part out. The important part is I think it was seeing the embankment and brush on the other side of the road and thinking it was something in the road that I was approaching quickly there for it automatically applied the brakes which surprised me because I didnt realize the truck would do that.

I’ve got a 2018. I turned off the Lane Departure Warning. That was annoying. The rest of it I really like and works fine.

    Same here. Love the BSM.
Manufactures wouldn't have found the need for all this if people paid more attention to driving. I've been rear ended as well as my wife by distracted drivers.

People are not going to put there phone down so we now have TSS. Most vehicle accidents are the driver's fault. Computer control of vehicles is inevitable and the ultimate goal is to remove the driver from the vehicle. Soon vehicles will drive you to your destination without any input from the driver. All vehicles will communicate with each other so that if one vehicle is braking or accelerating the following vehicles will match their speed. This will allow more vehicle on the road.

It's inevitable so you better start getting use to the change.

The cruise control nearly made me shit myself 2 days ago. I was passing a car on the freeway, as my exit was coming up about 2 miles ahead. Brakes activated. Slammed on the gas and fumbled to deactivate the CC. Haven't used it since. Until that moment, I never had any issues with it, and the braking was predictable when catching up to traffic or getting cut off.

I would never be one to think that all drivers are as good as I am. I used to drive into downtown Portland every morning (until I started working from home last week..) and every morning I would see quite a few ass-hat morons behind the wheel zipping in and out traffic, changing lanes often to save a few seconds on their commute. Interestingly, many of the vehicles I saw doing that usually had some damage showing. Keep in mind that the safety features are there to keep you safe, not to make you a better driver. I'm not as worried about the driver behind me hitting me as much as I am about hitting the one in front of me. And the comment about turning off lane departure? Are you having that much trouble keeping it between the lines? :crapstorm:

Haha ya I know exactly what you mean I'm coming from the country south of portland into downtown every morning and yes there are way to many idiots especially now with all the road construction people cant seem to figure out what cones mean lol. Between the suicidal bicyclists, the road construction, and all of the dumb people, the roads in and around the portland metro area are an absolute nightmare. I'm jealous I wish I could work from home!

Sorry if this has been asked, couldn't find it with search.

Has anyone tried to just tape over the camera? Wouldn't that prevent the system from taking action without the need to disable every time you start the truck?

Tape probably isn't enough. Even if you could get it to disable, you're going to get a TSS Malfunction take to dealer warning on the dash. How annoying would that be? I've been dealing with TSS since we got my Wife's Rav4 in 2016, I have it on my 18. It seems like many people are trying to make a big deal over nothing. I wouldn't want a vehicle without. Which i'm sure i'm not alone if you look at the spike in sales in 18 over 17.

That's just it, though. Putting tape over the camera (windshield) won't disable the system, it will just prevent it from gaining any useful video feed to analyze or act upon. Unless it goes into failure mode when viewing an empty field, seems it should work. Maybe I'll give it a whirl this weekend.

I've had my 18 for a week, and 3 times it's yelled at me BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE as I exited the freeway and it recognized the exit signs as obstacles.

Then it's absolutely not working correctly. I would take it in to the dealer. They'll review the black box videos that record when it tells you to brake to confirm and let you know how they'll proceed. Happened to another member on here, but I don't know if he ever updated the outcome.

You didn't throw on a pro grille or anything did you? If so, I'll assume you'll be charged for the diagnosis. If you're still stock, that a warranty issue for sure. 3 times in one week, there's definitely an issue.

Cool you're in this thead and responded. Yours actually applied the brakes right? It didn't just toss out warnings, correct? How's the new truck?

Mine did both, the brake apply was on the freeway  , the new truck is awesome and have had zero issues! Even started putting on parts I accumulated while owning the other one. I never was confident in keeping the truck long term so I never bothered installing them haha

Your experience was why I didn't do the pro grille. I knew if I had that happen to me when I had altered the grille, I would have been out of luck. Glad they took care of you.

I traded a 17 OR auto (hated that trans) for a 18 Pro MT. Much of it can be turned off pretty easy. Having said that, I haven't had any trouble with any of it. The lane departure is useful on those long drives when you start to doze off as I did between Salt Lake and Moab last week. The cruise control is easy to turn off or use it without the distance measure (hold it in for 1.5 seconds when turning on), but I leave it at the shortest distance setting. The only issue I've experienced is when some asshole pulls right in front of you rapidly. Then it triggers the system, BUT if you brake yourself, it backs off, so to speak. That's my experience.

As I mentioned, if you hold the cruise control switch in for 1.5 seconds it goes to standard cruise control. Easy.

My 18 Pro MT works the same as the ATs, as I noted in this post.
