This is exactly why I don’t want anything with this stuff. My better half drives a Toyota for work and they hate the way tss operates. The system has nearly caused accidents by slamming on the brakes doing 70 on the interstate, and for non existent threats caused by a shadow.

My old work car was a Prius V. That damn thing would randomly beep and start braking hard because of rain, curves, reflections off shiny tankers, and UFO's (probably).

More than once, I thought it was out to get me and it certainly didn't make friends with the people behind me.

I just love threads like this -- the value of my 17 is going up with these posters -- if it stays high and gets higher with all of the no-experience drivers of TSS -- I will sell to one of these people and get me one with all of the safety stuff. BTW -- we have had a 15 Subaru Outback ( with the "Eyesight system) for almost 3 years --and both wife and I feel it has been some of the best money we have ever spent on an option.
All of you inexperienced/no-experience TSS drivers -- keep on bad mouthing it -- my 17 goes up in value--thank you.
Never a false alarm in 32K miles, system did shut itself down once when the inside of the car fogged up -once

Simple question: Have you driven a Toyota vehicle with this system? Another: Do you know and understand the parameters which activate the braking system?

I have and I do understand the system. Tailgating at 80 mph won't activate the brakes bro. If the guy you are drafting (stupid unless wearing a helmet and a five point harness) smacks the car in front of him though, THEN your braking system will activate, about 50X faster than your slow foot. It will allow you to steer also. Finally, when your brain catches up and your slow foot finally gets the signal to push the brake, hopefully you won't get hit.

Now, cruise control won't work when you are only a few feet behind someone but hey, it sounds like you are a race car driver anyway and they don't do cruise. Good luck man and remember, many of the vehicles out there are already running a version of this safety system, and chances are good that the guy in front and behind you sometime during your commute you are depending on their system! Their computer is deciding when you brake haha.

I’ve been using PCS and it’s pretty nice. Mine doesn’t break the truck if someone cuts me off, it has only braked while using cruise control. It keeps a solid distant between you and whoever is in front of you. I’m not sure if that’s how it is suppose to work but that is what has been happening.

I’d turn it off if I was driving on ice. But that’s about it.

if it is like the Subaru system -- use it and you will see that you can set your following distance to one of 4 settings. Also the setting you choose will get a bit longer the faster you go. as far as the emergency braking -- it will only do that if it senses you have NOT braked and a collision will happen -- if you so much as touch the brake, it feels you are in control. When using the ACC (cruise) it will brake as well to slow you down to maintain your chosen following distance. Someone cuts in between (they always do) -- it will slow down again to keep your chosen distance.
Best advice I can give -- read your manual and get used to the "system" -- I bet you will like it!!
Also -- look at the book -- I'll bet you it says NOT to use the adaptive Cruise when traction conditions are bad -- Our Subaru book warns the user of this! this is common sense!

Until it saves your ass from a collision -- then lets see if you call it BS. A driver turned off in front of my wife --then changed their mind and turned back out -- saved her from a 30mph wreck --NOT BS-- I call that GS (good shit)

You don't think a company as big as Toyota can't figure that out before putting it out to the buying public!!?? whatever!!

Turn off all cell phones and tablets and pay attention to what you are doing when driving. This from a driver with just short of 4,000,000 miles under my belt.

I don't want this garbage. I don't want to learn to understand this garbage. I hate the idea of a machine making driving decisions for me at 55mph.

I live in Arizona and the companies out here have been beta testing self driving cars for data collection and RandD for companies like Chevy, Volvo, and uber. It's only a matter of time before self driving cars slowly get phased in. Wouldn't be surprised eventually they become mandated.

Hearing the people clamouring for gun control. Give it 20 years and it will be the same people trying to mandate self driving cars due to auto fatality numbers in the name of life saftey.

You are correct -- in a perfect world-- this would happen -- but you and I know this is not the case today. The safety stuff is to protect all of the good drivers from the texting and drivers out there as well as protect them from themselves

to the haters... not everyone wants nanny's half-driving their cars for them.

And don't blame Toyota... I'm pretty sure all this safety BS is federally mandated.

Jonathan Ward's Icon stuff looks better and better all the time... now just to win the lottery!

Toyota will soon be out of business if the collision system EVER locks the brakes while you are moving.

Also, the vehicle has lane departure ALERT, not lane departure ASSIST

Not saying it doesn’t help in certain situations, however, say your going around a curve to the left, there’s a turning lane to go right, your vehicle still sees that car and hits the brakes even though Your lane is wide open, that’s where I call it bs, not good.

Has your vehicle done this? Or this is just a scenario you made up in your mind?
    The Subaru's
system (closely related to Toyota's -- I would bet as Toyota owns 18% of Subaru) has been very good about differentiating between cars in your lane and those not in your lane, even when going around curves. I have no experience with driving the new Toyotas with TSS -- but there is 3 years advances in tech between our 15 and the new 18's. Our outback tracks cars ahead very well going around curves. It is easy to tell as it beeps whenever it picks up the car ahead and also when it loses the car ahead. The "eyesight system works very well!

I'm reading all of this and all I can think of is when anti-locks were introduced, the same arguments. My foot is better than the anti-locks blah, blah, now its everywhere and no ones complaining now. I used to say the same, This from an old man that grew up driving a camaro on two ply summer only tires in the dead of winter. Did a few unwanted donuts on the way to school. Scares the bejesus out of ya and luck of the draw. ABS has saved my ass many time as well once I learned proper use.

Once you know how to use any new system to your benefit, it gets better. When the system come out study it and see if it's for you.

    Just sayin

    .

Me, I'm sticking with my 13 cause ya know 3rd gen... Like the looks of 3g, just can't get over the power bands.
