Do I completely remove the outer sliding piece from the plug?

You want to start with the outer portion slid all the way up

Then set the first portion down into the plug

Then push the rest down till it clicks locked

Thanks everyone! I finally got it. The wires were shaped and bent coming out of the connector. The bend was severe enough that it was interfering with the motion of the slider. Once I straightened out the wires the clip would open enough that it was easy to connect. Frustrating...now if I can just figure out how to get the maestro to connect back with the dashboard and show the radio channels again. I lost them when disconnecting the battery.

God bless this thread. The rest of my install was easy but for some darn reason this harness was a royal PITA.
