man, a lot of 6 cylinders have been blowing up lately. i wonder if the summer heat has anything to do with it. i've heard these engines are very sensitive to overheating.

I’ve seen like 5-6? since I’ve joined TW in 2019.

couple were from extreme abuse. I really don’t understand what’s the huge deal is here. Yes, it fucking sucks for the owners. I would’ve been pissed but that’s just life.

You quoted his exact words? I’m not gonna lie, I’m having a hell of a time falling asleep tonight, so I figured going back and re reading all of Dave’s posts in this thread would help wear me out.

    1) unfortunately it didn’t

    and

    2) he didn’t say “dropping like flies” or “everywhere” in this thread unless he has since deleted a post or had edited a post within one minute of publishing it. If he had said those things I would agree with you that it was hyperbole.

I don’t disagree with your general direction. But realistically there are probably, at most 10% of Tacoma owners with TW memberships. And not all of them with an issue of any kind are necessarily gonna post it here, or they may and we don’t see it. Point is you’d have to multiply the 5 or 10 instances or whatever that may have been discussed on TW recently and multiply by at least 10, maybe 20 to extrapolate to all Tacoma ownership, and then also by 56 if they were truly within a week, and then you get to a larger number. Which may still not be a super significant number as a percentage, but certainly much higher than 10 in a million.

I found it, it was pretty Googleable. Fair enough, hyperbole. I still like Dave.

You could use the TW search function for days and never find it. 5 seconds on Google. Google actually knows what you’re thinking, you don’t even have to type anything.

More like one tenth of one percent are members of Tacoma World.
People who have issues post 11 times more that people with no issues.
So, assuming 250K are sold each year... Do the math.
Bottom line it is not many.

3rd gen forum just pulls in the trolls. They can't help themselves.

OP - I'd keep after Toyota for at least some help on that bill. Good luck man.

A relative of mine had a BMW 740 that was always breaking down, as soon as it was up and running he traded it in...and as he was driving home in his new car the dealer called him because the 740 tranny was stuck in reverse lol.

My 1997 camry v6 is still on the road in the hands of a distant relative. Last I heard it was over 400k miles. The paint hasn't fallen off and the engine hasn't exploded.

I don't think the current crop of Toyotas will have that same longevity.

It’s actually an interesting question, I think the average production over 17 years has been more like 200K, and there are about 330,000 members believe it or not. Obviously they don’t all represent an active Taco owner but a surprisingly large number, to me at least…

At any given time there are at most 500 people posting in 3th gen section...

I should add, although I miss my 3rd Gen runner. That SOB had problems too…blown head gasket leading to some milkshake, underpowered 3.4, having to add an external trans cooler to divert from the factory one, then adding auxiliary fan controller..

point is, each vehicle is gonna have issues. Each person has an expectation and there will never be a “perfect” truck that fits all. Adapt and modify to your needs.

although, my prayers for the OP cause I feel like you just got one of the millions…hope you can figure it out!
