The gear hunting seems to be normal for Tacoma, as is the thunk shifting to and from park, however using the parking brake solves this. The on-ramp, overtaking jerkyness comes and goes with my truck, you get used to it. There are other threads covering all these issues, and it seems they are basically normal. I absolutely love my truck otherwise so I just consider these oddities character!

It’s been an ongoing thing after a couple of months of owning it

Yeah mine does it on and off as well but sometimes it just doesn’t feel right. Later I just don’t want to have to deal with mechanical issues once the warranty is over.

Yeah I always give it some time to warm up. Even after it’s warmed up and have been driving it for a while, it still does that.

I’ve had this truck for about a year and 5 months and I also own a 2017 corolla.

ECT and S4 or S5 is your "friend". I have finally accepted this fact.

    A few.
Did they actually take it out on the road for a test drive or was there diagnostic procedure limited to driving around the parking lot? Usually if you tell them your willing to go with the tech for a test drive to show them the issue they will do it.

Make sure the TSB's are up to date. My 17 does none of the things you describe, but i'd have the TSB's done just to get it as good as Toyota can. Having the fluid level checked and filled as necessary as well is a good idea just to be safe.

The TSB helps to minimize some of your concerns, but the Tacoma transmissions do shift a lot on the highway.

It seems to happen after a servicing, I don't know if they disconnect the battery during service, and reset the drive adapted shifting or not. Or maybe the tech is out drag racing with my truck, who knows.

If you spell "brake" as "break" we know where the problem is... :frusty:

It happens to me all the time. I have mine at the dealer right now sent in because of a call to toyota customer service. it shifts when you dont want it to, or when its unexpected. the best description i have is, as im slowing down to come to a red light, gently applying the brakes, it will shift up, making the truck lunge forward if you arent ready with the brakes.

Normal toyota shit. I got ovtune to help but i'm guessing it is the fuel pump. My truck drive good and smooth some day and shitty some day. Check your truck for the recall. Mine is on a recall now.

They took it on the road all the times I took it in and I was there with them as well. It’s crazy because before I make the appointment, my truck wants to act up but the day I drop it off, somehow it wants to act all normal lol

I have the same truck 6’ bed but haven’t had any issues with the tranny but it will hunt for gears if I’m not paying attention to the terrain and once it finds the right one just go with it .that way it’s not loading up the cylinders with wasted fuel, but if you need the recall fuel pump I hope it fixes your issues, I’m not looking forward to a recall of my Chevy lo pressure pump

Had my 2018 TRD Sport in for updates on the shifting/ stumbling issues. Still doing same thing. Today I noticed after parking in garage, 4 hours later the fuel pump sounds like it’s on with truck off. Calling dealer in the morning
