My 6 speed auto trans shifts totally illogically. It's a joke. Especially when using cruise control.

Is there a computer or device or other fix for this problem. I found one but it is for the V6 only.

Toyota dealer says there is nothing wrong.

Have you tried driving with the ECT Power button on?

This is a common complaint with 3rd gens. Look into updating your firmware. There were large improvements in the stock programming after 2019.
If you update and are still unhappy, next step would be getting a tune. OTT is the most popular currently, and actually changes shift points while products like pedal monster and pedal commander only alter throttle sensitivity.

Stop using cruise control, get a v8, diesel or a cvt trans auto... That is about all the options you have, it is just the nature of the beast with this truck. Tunes "help" but, do not totally eliminate the trans/gear hunting issues, associated with terrible cruise logic, and epa mandated mileage goals (no matter what anyone says). The cruise doesnt allow the truck to lose more than a few miles per hour, then it goes ballistic to keep the truck in the desired mph chosen. Then when going downhill the active dynamic braking will downshift or apply the brakes instead of "coasting" when you gain a few mph over what was selected. It is one of the "quirks" of the platform. You have to live with it, or move on. Hook anything of weight to the hitch, and it is even worse, if you can believe that. Good luck! Ski

Thanks to all of you.
The ECT does seem to help a bit but I haven't driven it much yet.

RE: "next step would be getting a tune. OTT is the most popular currently" What is OTT?

RE: "Stop using cruise control, get a v8, diesel or a cvt trans auto..." I may sell the truck & buy a vintage vehicle. No computers or other nonsense! And since I'm in Calif,.......No Smog Required on vehicles before 1975.

OTT = Overland Tailor Tune. It's a reprograming of the computer that helps with the shifting and even engine performance. There are several different types of tunes but OTT seems to be the most reliable and common. I don't have an auto or the tune but most people seem to say it helps.

As mentioned OTT. I have it on my 3.5 Not perfect but really helped. Not sure how much of an impact it has on the 2.7.

No problem. Should be pretty easy to find. Depends on the area but I think it's $400-500.

As you are trying out ECT, you might also fill up with Premium grade gas if you have been using Regular. You might find your truck has a bit more pep.

I'll only use cruise if the grade is flat. Otherwise I manipulate it by foot to prevent the trans from doing weird things. The 2.7 just doesn't have the power or is geared too high to use cruise on hilly terrain.
