Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. The new gen is never as good as the last gen yada, yada, yada.

Actually, I'm talking about the JD Power ones. There are multiple Jeeps on that list. My sister-in-law's Compass will force you to pull over and just shut down when you're cruising on the interstate the the tranny gets too hot. Like every time you drive more than a couple hours on the interstate. Not very useful in my book.

Jeep is way down on my list! I'm sure they would sell but not to me.

If you want to get into the topic of cost cutting we could go as far as saying that cost cutting is a country wide thing. With no particular industry being the lesser than the other as far as cost cutting is concerned. Premiere dollar is now being charged for sub par quality items.

Please do not try and sell me a crappy Chrysler product. That brand is straight trash now.

Hang on though, are you trying to tell me that the 3rd gen Taco is somehow better than the 2nd quality wise? Clear that up for me if you do not mind.

Shit. I might had read past and then assumed you were a later comment. I blame that on my constant work scatterbrain syndrome.

Oh and I'm not your friend, guy.

Yes sir. Quite the interesting paradox here right?

Well yeah not stock for sure. Brutes are lifted on 35s tho so...and everything looks bad with camo on. Imo stock Jeeps and Tacomas are pretty meh. Jeep truck will be same but the potential is there and the aftermarket will be too.

    Yes, absolutely.

What is quality to you? The number of people complaining about issues online? The length of time the average transmission lasts before needing a rebuild?

    Undeniable facts:
    - newer vehicles are built with access to newer, better materials and processes
    - newer vehicles are safer, more comfortable, better equipped, offer better performance and lower lower fuel consumption

    Sounds like quality to me.

All of the above factors are easily applicable to the 3rd gen, over the 2nd gen, just as the 2nd gen was an improvement over the 1st gen, and just as the 4th gen will be an improvement over the 3rd gen.

Sure, there are issues with the 3rd gen. But you won't find a single vehicle in the history of mankind that didn't have issues when it was first released. None of the "issues" are nearly as widespread as some crybabies make them seem. You go to a hospital, you'll find sick people.

I know I test drove several 2nd gens (2012-2014) a year before the 3rd gen even came out and found them to be unacceptable vehicles for the years of production (across a variety of factors). Test driving the 3rd gen was a huge improvement all across the board.

Will a 2nd gen outlast a 3rd gen if put through the same conditions across its life? Maybe, maybe not. No one will know that for a fact until at least a decade from now. But if that kind of reliability is what makes "quality" to you, then perhaps a horse and buggy would have been an even better purchase than 2nd gen? I know that after a year of owning the 2016, I'm very happy with my purchase, and am confident I'll keep this truck longer than any of the vehicles I've had before.

Worth mentioning, this jeep is going to be easily over 70k, new. Our tacos will be safe at 25-45k. i still think its the most reliable mid size pickup by a long shot. God knows what kind of minivan bullshit fiat is going to drop under that jeeps hood.

I don't fanboy the third gen, but JD power is the biggest joke in the car rating industry. "Initial quality" is just that, the first 30 days. At first I thought it was hilarious that car makers advertised on it, but it turns out the consumer doesn't seem to understand what it means.

Doesn't matter, they sell everyone made, and have stronger sales than ever.

We have a lot of Jeeps and Toyotas in the family, and we appreciate them for what they are. And for the record, they all have had about the same amount of issues, witch is relatively low for both makes. We don't buy a solid axle Rubicon and expect it to ride like a Tacoma, or buy a Tacoma and expect it to ride like a Honda.

I agree with you, he was Quoting JD Power list on Jeeps so I Posted JD Power having the same Rating for Tacoma's.

Well the jeep pickups that are currently out are very expensive. Im not sure if theyre going to make this its own jeep with sahara sport and rubi packages, maybe im just stuck into the idea of them being a novelty right now. Still doesnt really fit the bill for a pickup truck for me, but im sure people will find some joy in it. Longer wheelbase is going to turn off a fair amount of the wheeling jeepers too, i guess we will have to see. ill always love my taco, even if it has only one solid axle.

It's got the Jeep name and the Jeep crowd have been wanting it for about as long as the Comanche has been out of production. People have been modifying their Jeeps to become a pickup and spending huge money.

It will sell like crazy. It will not be competition for the Tacoma. Too different intentions. The people who buy this Jeep will be Jeep people not truck people looking for a new truck.
