Kinda hard to judge quality from 40 years ago, they are not even the same company today.

They haven't made a effort to improve quality since they were owned by American Motors.

Former Jeep owner here.... I could complain a lot about a Grand Cherokee we owned. But, you'd never see me complain about our Wrangles we had - and beat the piss out of them on the trails/rocks. I'd buy another Wrangler as a recreational vehicle again - just never a daily driver.

How is the Jeep not winning the votes? From what I gather the Tacoma is better compared to the GM twins solely because it can off road a little better, other wise they tow less, ride and handle worse, are slower, worse interior, worse mpg, ect so in that instance the Tacoma wins because of the off road factor. Now Jeep brings a wrangler PU that will out off road the Tacoma and those same people now want a Tacoma because it rides better, has a better interior (supposedly) and other comforts it wins? Ya'll need to make up your minds...

    list is growing fast
The balance of both wins versus the extreme of either.

How is the interior better in the GM trucks?

My first vehicle was a '72 jeep grand wagoneer. I miss that thing. Maybe one day I'll find a restored one.
I'm not gonna vote, but I'd rather have my 2nd gen since the SAS is almost complete.
Given the choices, I'd rather have a jeep, current rubicon unlimited or the future truck over a 3rd gen Tacoma.

While I liked the cleaner and better fit and finish of the Tacoma, it was only a little better. Neither are just awesome.

    You forgot...Tacoma tows better/more.
Surely - Jeep wins overall for its off-road worthiness. I didn't look at the specs, but I just know that Wrangler can't tow 7,000lbs and will probably never be able to tow that much.

So, the Tacoma wins simply because it can do both.....off-road and tow.

Jeeps days were over when the inline 4.0 disappeared. Just another Chrysler  vehicle with the Jeep name now.

I work for a Jeep dealership, and more notably Dakota Customs (Wrangler Hemi/truck conversions). The unfortunate thing about Jeep coming on with a truck is that they will not do it right, IMO. The AEV Brute (IMO) is what the new Wrangler truck NEEDS to look like to be successful. All the renderings/pictures ive seen of the new wrangler truck have been disappointing. None, of them seem to have proper proportions or good sight lines. The other thing that i think Jeep is missing big on is not putting hemi's in the wranglers from the factory. Luckily that is their loss and where we get to profit, so i'll take it.

Also to note, the wrangler was never really designed for someone that has daily driving in mind. The interior is low on features, mostly due to making them easily cleanable, and less prone to water type damage. If you want a comfortable truck to drive, you certainly wouldnt want to go to a wrangler. If offroading is in mind, unfortunately it would be king.

For a jeep I think its cool, I say this as Im not much of a jeep fan. Went wheeling this past weekend with two jeeps guys in our crew and no matter how many times I get in one to check it out...just cant get into it. I wonder with this being a truck chassis if it might have a little different in suspension?

Speaking of that, I was told by my wheeling buddy that the softtops on jeeps can get very hot in the summer time. I wonder would this have similar insulation like the roofs on our tacomas? I cant stand being warm in the summer and it would annoy the hell out of me if my truck was always hot like the Jeep guys claim with their softtops.

not too sure, if i ever bought a wrangler it would be a hard top, even if i bought a miata or s2000 to have some fun with they would both get hard tops

I've got a 2013 2-door JK and a 2016 TRDOR....I like the seating position and 3.6L engine of the Jeep more than my Toyota, but the ride quality and interior features of the TRDOR is much better. I'll definitely go drive one of the Jeep trucks when it comes out...I'd say I'm not super happy with my Toyota and looking for a financial opportunity to ditch it.
