Only reason I bought a Sport was manual transmission. 3rd Tacoma in 25 years, all manual. Took awhile to get used to a 6spd manual.

Right, if there is ever a difference in price it only comes from comparing different configurations.

This! But I would hold on to it, allegedly it saves 1-2 mpg on the highway, so you might want for very long road trips.
You've got a capable truck, enjoy!

I dont think you should have any remorse.
I am happy with my 2017 TRD OR 4x4, but if I were to do it again I would probably go down to the poverty (SR or maybe SR5) trim level.

You have traction control in 4lo. It isnt as strong (able to brake as hard or as long) as ATRAC or MTS of the higher trims but still quite effective.

One reason I headed up to higher trim is that in previous gens, the lower models had no traction control at all in 4lo. That is no longer the case, and I didnt realize it originally....

I had a 2014 sr5 4x4. Only reason I got 2019 TRD is you can't get a stick in SR5 now. Sr5 is way better because you save money. Why pay for TRD suspension and tires when you're just gonna swap it out anyways? If you're like me, you wont need a rear locker to pound foreat service roads.

The first rule of being happy with any purchase you make, no matter what it is, is to stay off their freakin forums.

Having sad that, you will be fine. My buddy has one and we’ve been through some rough crap with no problems whatsoever. Unless you plan to get crazy with the rock crawling - which you already said you aren’t - you’ll be fine.

Welcome and enjoy your new truck. It was a great purchase, don’t let the detractors sway you...

I have both a 19 TRD Pro- Stock fox shocks with 285/75 R16 and a 17 SR 4x4- 6112/5160 Bilsteins with 255/85 R16's. Same engine and trans. Same capabilities- from experience with both. I have yet to use crawl control.

Enjoy the hell out of the SR. Great truck

with the money you saved getting the SR, you can upgrade it to make it better than what a Sport or OR is. Put in a mid-level lift, like a Bilstein 6112/5160, with some new leaf springs for the rear, coils for the front, maybe Upper Control arms if you need them. Get new, bigger AT tires, and some rims for some style points, if you want. and if you shop around and wait for sales/deals, possibly buy lightly used off the martketplace here, you'll come out having spent less money than what you would have with the Sport or OR. if you need a locker, get an On-Board Air setup with the ARB Locker, and now you can air up your tires and even run power tools from your truck.

the only thing you won't have for off-roading, is the Crawl Control, but your skills will make up for that, and you'll be better off.

    Like, so many.
It’s very capable. Throw on some good ATs and traction boards and have a blast.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
I have done a fair bit of off reading here already, but it’s been in a Polaris Razor. The wife doesn’t like the heat and the dust, or looking like a sugar cookie after going out, so we got the Tacoma.

A girl I work with does a fair bit of off reading. She said I just need to replace the street tires and I’m good to go, same as what you all have told me. Once I sell the Razor, I see some tires in my future. :)

I am stoked. Quite stoked actually. I just started reading too much and it has me second guessing my purchase. I am quite happy with what I have, and everyone here has helped confirm that!

Thank you all for such a warm welcome. I really appreciate it.

You could also check out Craigslist for some new TRD Off Road take-off rims and tires. You can pick them up pretty cheap. I see them go for $400 around here. The stock tires are pretty good.

Your take offs will bring cash. Maybe not enough to offset a nice set of Wildpeaks or some such, but something back. Discount tire is my fav for all things wheels if there's one near you. I just recently sold my take off OEM TRD Off Road wheels (not tires) in two days on Facebook market. Got $450 for them.

This is true, OP, you can offset the cost somewhat by selling the parts you take out. It may not be much, but a few hundred dollars for wheels and shocks/coils/springs/etc is definitely significant.

Most people can get from point "A" to point "B" in a stock 4X4 just like the guys who spend $10K modifying their trucks. The difference is the guys who modify them go out of their way to find the most difficult path.

I have a 4x4 TRD OR that I took on the Vultee Arch trail a few weeks ago, I never used the locker or crawl control. Just put it in 4L for most of the trip and took it easy. I scraped on one spot because I had a little too much speed. No real damage except a scratch on a skid plate. I also removed the mudflaps because they are easy to take off and have the potential to do some damage if they get hung up on rocks. I didn't even scratch the surface of what this truck can do on that trail and I think you will be just fine. I think the place where the locker and CC will come into play for me, will be when I don't want to use momentum to get over something, or really uneven terrain with poor traction, but I will likely never drive on a trail that extends this truck beyond what I have described here. I have mountain biking for that thrill, especially since this is my daily driver.
