Welcome! Comparing a Tacoma to a Lexus? Really? Even comparing it to a Tundra is not right.
Sounds like you got the wrong vehicle man. Good luck.

18k miles on my 18 and it can’t keep 6th or 5th with any incline on the highway. Dealer wouldn’t apply TSB for transmission last time I was in so I’ll be trying a new dealer for them to apply it. It is my sole complaint with the truck. I’d be happy if it could hold 5th gear steady.

Your problem is that you test drove a used, "learned" truck and bought a brand new "un-learned" truck.

If you will drive it like you just stole it for the first 10k mikes (fuel economy be damned) you and the truck will come to like each other. If you baby it over the same 10k you'll be miserable.

Just void your warranty and be done with it.

And here is an example of root cause.

Yes, you'd think they'd all be the same. But they aren't.

Hopefully it will get better for you.

I’d consider a LB DC manual if they made it. A MT isn’t a solution to every thing, but it’s always in the gear that you want.

The non manual is the only reason I don’t have LB

You’re right, it defiantly isn’t. There are a lot of guys on here these trucks would never please. I test drove both the manual and the AT quite a bit and in the end the double cab with the 6’ bed was more important to me. Personally I don’t have any issue with my AT, it drives like my 2nd Gen with an extra gear and an extra 4-6mpg, so I am happy ! I do love tossing gears though, so when if ever a DCLB manual comes around you’ll see me in it.

ECT fixes the early shifting, but even with the TSB flashes, the cruise control is dogshit on the highway. You just have to either get used to it or try OVTune, which I have no experience with.

If you crank the radio and look away from the tach you barely notice the wild cruise.
