Funny you should mention a Colorado, just for the hell of it I checked out a couple of their forums. If anybody here thinks Tacos have issues, check out their forums, hardly anything positive, all kinds of transmission lawsuits, I was really surprised to see how minor most of our issues are compared to the Colorado...

They put it in a minivan - so there are cement heads on this forum who will claim it's not a proper truck engine.o_O

Buying a Colorado implies a celebratory dinner at Applebee's and two Bud Lights to wash it down. I think they throw in a free Luke Bryan music file (undelete-able) already on the head unit, but see your parts dept for you bonus gift and large bowtie rear window decal or some real tree steering wheel covers. Act now don't delay.

Indeed, the new-for 2018 8-speed automatic that comes with the 3.6 V6 has a shudder that resulted in a class-action suit.

The 5-speed automatic in the base pickup and the 6-speed automatic on diesel models appear to be pretty stout.

This has nothing to do with accepting that you love your truck. If you like how your Tacoma drives, that’s awesome. High five!

Still that doesn’t help those of us who don’t like how our Tacomas drive. I come on here looking for practical suggestions on how to fix/improve the way my $40,000 truck drives. I don’t come looking to be brainwashed into believing that my Tacoma is wonderful to drive when I know it isn’t.

Thankfully, despite all the butt hurt on this forum, I got some useful tips I plan to try to see if I can get my Tacoma to drive better. Fingers crossed.

Maybe it's time to cut your losses and trade for one that better meets your needs, life is too short to be miserable all the time over something you can change.

I wish you success in that because, it is a wonderful feeling to look forward to driving your truck every time you climb in.

I haven’t owned the truck even 2 months, so I am still hopeful I can find a way to like how it drives.

Ultimately, it is up to me to decide when it is time to trade in. But I appreciate your concern.

It is, indeed. Thank you. I do too.

so i have posted before on this but my 2007 xterra i bought new back in 2006 has been the greatest and most reliable vehicle i have ever owned. i can't part with it as it is in like new condition in all ways.

with that said, i wanted to get another solid 4x4 to rely on to go on the beach mainly and to the mountain spot i have.

my take on the various brands is this:

ALL jeeps are better than their competitionin their class in terms of capability but not durability and reliability.

most american brands fall into the same category. seems at about 100k miles, they start seeing problems.

japanese makers like nissan and toyota shoot for long term reliability. i have 145k mile son my x and have zero rattles, smokes, buzzes, whatevers. Def a mid-week build vehicle.

the taco is the slowest of my current 3 cars- xterra (fastest), patriot 4x4 (next to fastest) and taco.

    but who cares.

i can't haul big things in the patriot or the xterra like i can the taco.

the taco probably is tied or maybe beats the xterra as far as offroad capability. the patriot is darn good though for what I use 4x4 for.

i would suspect the taco outshines xterra on the beach due to wheelbase and all the gizmos- and that's a huge order because the x is sweet on the beach.

sure, i wish the taco was a wee bit "quicker" but the ect enable always on seems to pacify me mostly. i am betting 91 or 93 gas will finish that.

That Xterra is a rocket ship compared to the Tacoma [/sarc], since you didn't put the year of the patriot I can only call BS based on the numbers at

I have noticed that the taco gets to 60 fast enough. so you are right in the above. the way it FEELS is that the taco is the slower of the 3. That probably is a function of the drive by wire gas pedal. A pedal commander would probably take care of that "feel" but i worry about it possibly damaging something like the throttle body so won't do that.

the hood of the taco is also much bigger than the xterra or patriot and that give the perception of it being slower perhaps....

regardless, i am happy with my taco. i traded in a 2019 mustang gt pp1 that was 0-60 in 3.94 seconds. And the taco to me is just fine for what it is.

patriot is a 2017 4x4 6spd auto btw. not the cvt.

    I believe it... I bought a NEW 2008 ZX10R for $8800 OTD, a NEW 2009 ZX6R for $7600 OTD, and a NEW 2008 SuperDuke for $10000 OTD.

No one could afford/finance the basics, let alone "luxury" items like boats, scooters, guns, etc.. I was blessed to be in LE (steady career) and made many an "acquisition" during those few years!
