Can't you just unplug the pump and start the engine and see if the noise persists?

I’ve not heard these vacuum pumps, but that doesn’t sound normal to me!

At this point from what I read and the advice you guys are giving me it's not the vacuum pump making a noise... but it does sound like something that is turning on... since it doesn't do it when you first start the engine

okay went back to dealership pulled a random Tacoma 2019 2.7 L just like mine and the engine noise was exactly the same. The only difference was mine seems slightly louder... outside that they both sounded exactly the same

The only question I have is I wonder what the hell it is that turns on... it's definitely not the vacuum pump... noise generates on the same side as mine and everything

I listened to the noise again. I think it maybe the VVTI controller on the intake cam. If you had access to a Techstream you can activate it and see if the engine makes the noise. Toyota only started using a VVTI on the cam intake side for the 2.7 starting in 2016.

would that be the drivers side....noise comes from the drivers side..you hear it more on the drivers than the passenger side....somewhere behind the throttle body area

It would be on the driver's side at the front of the motor. It attaches to the cam shaft which runs the length of the motor.

I had the same issue. In gear, with foot on the brake, you can really hear it. Brought it in this morning, and they ordered a vacuum?? Ive got a 2018 trd v6. Hope this helps.

I have your same exact noise after a few minutes of idling did you ever find out what was wrong or was the knocking sound normal?
