    Let's go back to this...

Now that someone has shown it's an aftermarket part added by some dealers, where are you hearing it's an official part and "better quality"?

Mine locks and unlocks with the doors, didn't know it was uncommon. My Ram had locking tailgate too and it was close to a base model.

I too have a tailgate that locks with the type D key. I was having difficulty understanding the purpose of a separate tailgate key when the FOB locks the tailgate.

I did not understand these threads. Does that mean my dealer or distributor added that part?

Port/Dealer added option for gulf states. Build a ‘19 using a zip code in New Orleans, then build the same one using a Los Angeles zip code. The accessories offered are night and day, and significantly less of an offering in gulf states than on the west coast as an example. Why? I haven’t the slightest clue? Demographic’s economic census perhaps? Nonetheless as mentioned, it’s almost theft for them to charge you what they do for a pop n lock you could get online and install yourself. Almost should be illegal!

I just purchased one for $95.95 from etrailer. I think my labor is worth $183.05! I might due it cheaper for myself and pocket the remainder!!

I have seen it present on both GST and SET window stickers. I have looked up the VINs in the Toyota system and see they are port installed. I have one on my own 2018 and can say it ‘appears’ professionally installed, but similar to dealer options I have seen in other brands.

My 2018 has it also, but it's not listed in the "dealer installed options" part of the window sticker. I assumed it was standard equipment on the 18's.

This is a Toyota factory option available for the Gulf region distributor. So Texas gets this option for sure.

Correct, “Port” options are considered factory, but are not installed at the assembly plant. They are installed later at the “Port” of entry for the distributor. This is how regional variations occur.

EDIT: For those who wonder what is "Factory" installed versus "Port".... put your own VIN in the Toyota Vehicle Information Lookup - HERE
This will only show the items that came from the "Factory", anything else on the Monroney sticker (window sticker) is "Port" and anything on a side sticker is "Dealer".
