There are times I need a full size truck... hauling hay, pulling my horse trailer, pulling a camper/boat, etc. But I think I may pull the trigger on a new Double Cab 4x4 SR for a work truck(I am a real estate appraiser) and get an older/cheaper 'farm' truck for when the need arises. To me, with the updates to the '20-21 SRs, it looks like it has basically all most folks need. For those that have recently bought an SR, are you happy with it, or do you wish you'd have gotten a more equipped model? Please post a pic of your truck in your comments. Thanks in advance for your comments and you all have a great(and safe) Thanksgiving!

I have a new 2020 SR, Apple CarPlay is standard which is good. My last Tacoma was a SR5. I miss auto headlights, other than that I’m ok with my choice. I paid cash so I just couldn’t see spending the extra for a upper model.

That's where I'm at. I just don't see the need to spend more. That SR ought to take me anywhere I need to go for work. Easy to park and will get me back in the country when the need arises. I'd upgrade to a more aggressive tire, and probably put a cap on the back and call it good. Thanks for the response!

Only thing I wish my SR had would be heated seats and the backup sensor that beeps when you get to close to stuff cause I don’t pay attention when backing into my garage lol. Other than that I prefer the lack of extra electronics on the higher trims.

About the only option I wish you could get would be the long bed with the double cab. For the life of me I can't figure out Toyota's logic. In CANADA, the SR comes in a double cab with the long bed. This dealer is in Edmonton.

I am not used to heated seats. They make me feel like I had diarrhea. The only body part that bothers me getting cold is my fingers, so I have a pair of gloves. I second not having all the electronic junk. I was surprised to see the sun visors had no mirrors. That is really being cheap. And my last truck which I thought was cheaply made at least has metal bumpers, but this new SR has so much plastic, it just looks cheap with the all plastic bumpers. It will be nice over time if they do not get sun faded and brittle. I also wish the doors had longer compartments for holding maps instead of just 2 cup holders. But really minor complaints.

I'm aware... That adds to the mystery of why they don't sell it in the SR trim with the long bed...

Could just be the factory setup? Who knows with Toyota.... No access cab M/T OR in the states, but they have it in Canada.

I love my 2020 SR Access Cab. CarPlay is great and the adaptive cruise control works surprisingly well (I say that having never had a vehicle with it before).

Only “regret” is RWD. Someday I’ll plonk that extra 10k to go 4x4...

Every truck I have owned for the last 30 years has been 4x4. Is a 4x4 REALLY $10k more, all else being the same? DAMN!

Not even close. Maybe 2-4, depending on trim and other options

I think it maybe depends on the local inventory in your region and taxes and whatnot? I’ll admit I’m no expert in Tacoma pricing.

Here in California I paid ~$24,500 MSRP for my bare bones 2020 RWD SR. If I wanted 4WD my cheapest option was a 2021 SR for ~$34,000 if I wanted to buy new.

I’ve seen people on here paying less, so take my experience with a big grain of salt.

Sounds like your dealership might have had some add ons to make it that expensive ...

Totally possible. I’ll admit once I saw the price I didn’t look at it much longer.

I just purchased a SR5 2021. Funny thing was that used were still over 35k plus and it was hard to haggle because these trucks sell so fast. After my trade in and low APR new made sense. I plan on having this truck for a long time. I do like the perks of the TRD. I have a buddy who is taking trips to Moab who needs a capable rig. Hats off to him.The SR5 V6 4x4 SB is my very capable reliable daily, dog park transport, and fireroad rider to trails. I will upgrade suspension, ties, LED lights and after market locker in time for cheaper than a TRD. The tech is great and pairs well with my phone. The 2021 has now electric adjustible driver seat, dual climate control, sonar, lane assist, tons of safety features and automatic head lights. I'm sold on the SR5. Solid purchase.
