Good find! It would be nice if this worked on 2019 and earlier Tacomas.

will not work immediately after locking the truck. Must give the security system time to "set". If the inside security light is flashing, should be good to go. Also, on the third press of the lock button, you must hold it down for around 5 seconds (this is what seems to get most folks). With your options, I would think it would work.

Just confirming for the group that it works on my 2020 TRD Sport Premium as well. Saved me a bunch of $$ as I was just about to purchase an N2 Designs starter. Thanks for the tip.

If you truck have the SOS button, then it has remote connect services including the remote start. You also should have received 1 year of free service with your new 2020. If not, then download the Toyota app and register and it will show up.

My dealership also told me that it did not have remote start. It does have remote connect so I was playing with the phone app and just pressed the start engine button to see what would happen and wouldn’t you know it, it started the truck...dumb dealership.

    Thanks for sharing this!

my brother just bought a 2020 Tacoma a couple of months ago.
The dealer said remote start wasn’t even an option.
I just sent him your instructions and guess what..... it started right up.

    thanks again!!!

My 2020 OR w/ tech pkg has the SOS button and i can see current gas level and tire pressure using the app but cannot remote start. I dont have the premium package which is what i believe you need for remote start to work on the fob and app

This is 100% correct. I'm in the same boat. No Premium Tech package on my 2020 OR and this doesn't work.

    OME and worth every penny.
The funny thing about remote start is people had just overcame the fears of not warming up a vehicle before driving about 10 yrs ago and now everytime I go to the gym I pass a vehicle starting on it's own with no one coming to it. We're in the 60's and '70s now. No AC or heat needed.

This is awesome! I have been using the remote connect app to start my truck and it’s worked beautifully but I didn’t realize I could use the FOB to start the truck by pushing 3 times and holding the third push! I was wondering if I was going to have to pay the app fee after the trial membership (which I think is a year) to continue to be able to use this feature. I was thinking it was sorta B.S. if the app was the only way to make it work. But now I’m all good! Wonder why this feature isnt anywhere in the manual?

im confused as to why anyone would do this? what is the point of starting it if it is just going to shut off once you open the door?

If you aren't getting in the vehicle for 5 minutes when it's -40, or 110, I suppose, it gives the vehicle time to warm up or cool down.

The turning off when the door opens part is dumb, though.

For me personally, I live at almost 10000 and work at 11500 ft. and it’s pretty awesome to start the truck before I have to get in and the truck be warmed up, seats heated, windows defrosting and partially or fully ready to go in the winter time. Don’t really use it during the summer. It is sorta bummer that it stops when you unlock or open the door. I’ve heard that this a standard safety feature for all cars that have push button ignition (not just Toyota’s) not sure if that’s true. But that’s the rumor:gossip:

im pretty sure the SOS button is standard now. I have a 2020 TRD off road with no extra packages and it has the button.
