Look at your owner's manual. I attached the relevant pages. The view you're currently in is panoramic so you can see obstacles and traffic on the periphery of the front bumper.

That raised more, not less questions for me. "Part of objects that cannot be displayed", yet you can clearly see an image through the overlay.

The explanation that I've previously heard is that it's a safety feature. It's to keep you from trying to use it when driving on the road.

Honestly one of my biggest gripes about my 2020. A friend of mine got a 2020 RAV4 and their camera quality is way better.

But it turns off after, what, 5mph? Silly lawyers.

my biggest gripe, next to the gear hunting, on my 19 sport is, the blurry views the camera gives the driver. so much so, that i just do it the old fashioned way, and use the mirrors. my 2017 gmc sierra, and 2014 subaru crosstrek have WAAAAAY BETTER camera views. shame we pay so much for these, and they cant get a simple option correct. Would a heads up display projected on to the windshield be a better Idea? The Driver can look forward and view the road and monitor at the same time.

Direct quote from the manual: "Since the panoramic view processes and displays images based on flat road surfaces, it cannot depict the position of three-dimension objects (such as vehicle bumpers, etc.) that are in positions higher than the surface of the road."

It's a visible indication that the image area behind the shading can't be used as a point of reference to assess depth of field or distance. That's all. It's to show you everything on the periphery of the bumper versus what is in front of and above you (hence the shading). It's to subconsciously deter you from using that portion of the image for driving decisions.

I wonder if the Rav4 camera can be swapped for the Tacoma(?) That might solved the quality picture!

I agree the camera resolution is low on the front and back on my 2020 Tacoma. My 2016 Back camera was a lot clearer one of the first things a noticed in my new 2020 version.

I think the front camera grayed out area is there so you can’t read the license plate of the car in front of you at a stop. It’s seems to be a software static overlay Toyota added to do this. I hope someone figures a hack/work around to restore the full image.

Sorry to resurrect the old thread. Searched for posts before asking the same question

Anyone find a solution to removing the shaded portion of the front camera view? I understand its a deterrent to not use it as your primary view for driving, but there must be a way to by pass this feature and have full access to the camera view

I believe ppl think that the anytime camera is way better than the 360 one on here. Atleast the anytime camera doesn’t have the black thing sticking out.

Wonder if you can just direct swap the cameras out and get rid of the dumb blacked out part of the front camera view

Did you have the OEM camera system/360 pano view and swapped out for the anytime front camera?

I read in one of the threads on here that the greyed out area is in the head unit and not in the camera. I don't think swapping cameras will get rid of it.
