don't know what amplifier you're considering, that'll determine power requirements. but likely it'll be under 100 amps, unless you're running more than one amplifier. so 4 awg is probably sufficient. if you intend to send a bunch of power to multiple subs it could be a heavier load.

    check your numbers.

In general, I hate to have to re-do work (I assume most people do) if I can avoid it at minimal cost.

Currently trying to decide on how far to go down this particular rabbit hole. Thoughts vary from…

200-500w rms for a sub channel
50-160 wpc rms for 4 channels (passive x-overs)
(Or 50-75wpc rms for 6 channels)
(Or 50-75wpc rms for 10 channels bi-amp mids/highs in doors with active x-over)

currently sampling different 8” Mid/bass drivers in doors.

It ultimately comes down to your personal perceived value.

I’m running fairly basic 6x9 components upfront with passive crossover, 6.5 coax in the rear, and a 12” shallow sub. All powered by an 800.5 amp. some EQ and time alignment via a pioneer head unit.

my system sounds amazing compared to every factory system available, and is plenty of audio for me. I can get as loud as I want and stay about as clean as my ears can perceive, with more base than I need.

My commute is about 15 minutes each way and I typically have my three and five-year-old girls in the backseat.

At one point, I wanted to upgrade to much nicer speakers, a much better amp, a DSP, run new wiring, the whole nine. Now, just a few years later, I’m extremely glad I did not spend that money on audio upgrades. I just simply don’t have the perceived value and for me, it doesn’t meet that 80/20 rule.

I have built multi thousand dollar systems and they sound great. But the value just isn’t there for me to do it in my vehicle.

I would suggest starting a new thread to discuss your options so we can keep this one focused on the key Hideaway basic install

I have kicker cs speakers in from and back with ds 18 tweeters and had a kicker key installed today and kicker hideaway and when I fade to the rear I have literally no sound coming from the rear door speakers. I mean there is sound but not much, I mean on its like there not even there basically, and definitely can't stick your hand next to them and hear any thump

It's a local shop here, that's not normal or right is it, I mean I was expecting alot more, when I fade to the center it sounds good but if I fade all the way to the rear those speakers don't do shit

You should ask them how they hooked it up. Sounds like they only amped the dash and front door speakers.

Yeah, you need to contact them and ask them how they hooked the amp up.

So after further observation and turning the hideaway completely off, there is nothing coming from the key amp to my speakers. So aggravated about this

What did they actually do? Four 10mm bolts is all that holds the radio in. Pop that sucker out and post a pic of the wiring they did

@destin_meeks is spot on. Open it up and check it out. There are different variations as to how the Key amp can be hooked up.

They did not use the red wolf harness. They cut your factory wiring right in half

they also tapped the subwoofer into the key output and not input, and they t-tapped your power and ground

absolute garbage install and they should be ashamed

Yeah I'm pissed, it's a freaking mess in there, I should have just did it myself after all the research I did. Buy I figured hey I will just pay the audio shop guys and they can slam it in there no problem and boy isn't that what they did. I feel like they trashed it and yeah it's gonna have to be completely redone, like I said they didn't have the mic in the box or the red wolf harness I supplied them and i specifically said this is to make a t harness so you don't cut into my factory wiring. And then wire ties. Wtf

Hey Dustin those dip switches are all jacked up too aren't they, like I thought I had power going to the fronts from the amp but I don't think nothing from that amp is working now. When I turned the hideaway off completely. Hell the stereo sounded better before they did all this. I have nothing coming from that amp to drive those speakers I feel. I should have known when they said this was the first one of these they had installed.

You need to tell them this is not the install you paid for and you’d like your mic, your supplied harness, and your money back.

going to take longer to fix than it should have taken to install

This is the exact nightmare scenario I envisioned happening had I not done it myself and paid some local shitty audio+ store to do the install.

Take it back to them and raise hell brother

That should have been an immediate red flag. Idk what your setup is but for me, I have kicker cs 6x9s up front and kicker cs 6-3/4 in rear with subi tweeters in A pilllars and my dip switches are DC ON (1st one down position) and all the rest in the up position.

Make them undo your botched job, make them put it back to factory and get your money back. Try again yourself. It's not that difficult of an install
