Your phone actually auto-downloads the entire route when you start it. You don't have to do it manually, FWIW. But if you do spend a long time in remote areas, I understand the preference for GPS in the dash...which is why it's great when trucks allow both like the 2020. Wish I didn't have to resort to aftermarket for carplay cause Toyota was late to the game.

I also use the track log feature extensively when off-roading. It's way cool. Not sure if they have that feature on the 2020s?

This is from a 2020 Taco with the JBL upgraded radio and built-in Nav...

So I tried to use the built-in nav over Carplay today just to give it a try and see if I was missing something from all the responses here. To me, and this is just my opinion, it felt like I was using a navigation system 10 years old, actually my 10 year old Garmin seemed to have better UI then this one did. I am not knocking it, if that is what you like then hey.. you paid for it might as well enjoy it. I just could not tolerate the chunkiness of the whole GUI around it.

Now I can at least say I tried it, but I will stick with my carplay.. not sure why people are against it to be honest the GUI is 100 times more easy to navigate, look at, and use HOWEVER I have never tried to bring up a map in the middle of nowhere... 98% of my driving is highway and I have never not had a cell signal on them.

Hey guys, just bought the 2020 OR with Premium OffRoad and Advanced tech.
Sad to know they remove the satellite ant for the truck in Hawaii.... So no sattelite radio wtf.
Also, compared to my 2016 standard OR this camera is absolute garbage. I can't see anything in my rearview backup camera..... Is this what everyone else's looks like?
It's worse then my Nissan NV1500 Cargo van.
    I can't see shit

Off topic, but North Shore Taco's is the best! One of my friends who lives on the island routinely sends me pictures to rub it in my face.

Some of us are just older and like using what came with our trucks. I'm not into attaching my phone to the truck except for calls. Heck I remember when we pull off the road and got out the old paper maps out!

I'm kinda old....and like my Android Auto HU upgrade....didn't care much for the Scout Nav system but I knew that going in with the purchase. I like how integrated the HU with everything and yes, I have paper maps handy behind the pass seat. I guess I'm a hybrid old guy.

I just bought an OR 2020 on Friday night. Maps button says the same thing! I think the integrated maps is part of a different package. Wish my dealer would have told me that, instead of saying they can't get integrated nav!! At least I got a free roof rack, tanneau cover and a hug discount on the truck!!

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
It cost them nothing to include maps, its pretty cheap for Toyota to not just include it with the head unit.

Yea, it seems to just be Software that is installed. I was going to try to see if I could find it online somewhere, download and install it. Either that or ask the guys in the service department to help me with the install

From what my dealer said, its a headunit that comes with the nav software installed from factory only. But being that it seems to just be software, and the unit has the map button I don't see why it wouldn't be able to be installed. Other than Toyota being difficult..

I believe the software is vin locked. So technically your HU could be reflashed (i.e. it’s the same hardware), chances of them doing it is probably nonexistent.

Better luck buying a secondary unit, or just using android/apple carplay?

I think you will be much happier going that route. I personally just got the Diamondback SD bed cover and love it.

I would just use Carplay or Andrio Auto on a 2020, I honestly believe those maps are 100x better then the built-in one.
