Do you recall how high up the fin the internals went? I know on some prior fins they were mostly hollow and people just cut them down and filled the gap with epoxy. I was thinking about trying that but if the guts go too far up the fin it won’t work. Here’s a write up of what I’m talking about:

I can try pulling it apart and seeing what it looks like, but I figured I’d ask someone that’s already had it apart first. Thanks!!

The internals go all the way up. From what I remember is was like an internal metal plate the filled the fin. That plate had the antenna components soldered to it, again all from memory. I did not see a way to disassemble it to make it work with the UpTop fin. Wish I had taken a pic of it now. I just cussed it out and put it back together. Was just to upset to take a pic because it took so long to take the headliner out and remove it just to see it didn’t work.

EDIT; found an image. Someone else’s, so I don’t know what he red circle is for.

thank you!! Looks like I’m all out of options and will be cutting back the roof line like this:

How far back did you cut it? Or is it better to first put the rack on and see how far is needed?

Our thinFIN will only work for 16-18 models years. Toyota changed the antenna in 2019+ models

Toyota never modified the rack - they changed the antenna position in 2020 so it depends on when your 2020 was built. Somewhere around the first week of February, they moved the shark fin back a bit to accommodate the rack. But, I believe it was moved back to the original position in 2021 - can someone else confirm that?

Mine was built on January 17 2020 the rack will not fit my truck.

Happen to have any photos from the interior? What material did you use on the roof?

Thank you. I didn’t buy it, sad face. I’ll have to find an after market one.

Bummer. It is decent for what it is, I think. Good luck finding something.

Again, a few people at Toyota were utterly asleep at the wheel to move the fin right into the path of the OEM rack. Duh!

Not a “car guy” but can’t an after market kit be made for the OEM rack that raises the mount of the rack a 1/2”? Removing, modifying, and/or relocating the antenna is a lot of work. If you remove the rack and make a template of its mounting trace, a hard plastic spacer could be fashioned that mounts between the rack and the base pad. Re-attached with mounting bolts a 1/2” longer and problem solved (?). Any thoughts? There are a lot of Taco owners that are frustrated by this issue, would seem there might be a market for such a relatively simple solution.
