Just in the nick of time! I was searching the forum looking for guides / tips on installing the OEM rack on my 2020 (DoM 11/19), and minutes before beginning the install, I came across this thread. While disappointed, I'm sure glad I didn't figure the problem out the hard way--thanks to all who have contributed here!

Now, let's hope TRDShop.com does the right thing and accepts the return...

they went from tool 1 to tool 2. The only thing different was the location of the punch out for stamping. Everything else down the line stayed the same, and before it stayed the same. All they did was revert to the tooling they already had from the prior year.

likely this took 5 minutes and zero dollars to do it this way. Everyone with a 2020 built before this though doesn’t get a resolution.

I hadn't heard that it was just the previous position and haven't been back in this thread since I made the comment. I based that off the statement that it was moved because of the updated 3rd brake light design. My employer has a tendency to undo things in the most complicated, bureaucratic way possible. So much for "the Toyota way"

The question remains - WHY DID THEY MOVE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?

because of a leaky 3rd brake light I thought.

Only speculation. I haven't seen any documentation to prove or disprove that this was the reason. And if it was, why did they move it BACK to the old position on the roof?

Has anyone tried modifying the cross bar so it would clear the antenna, or is it made of some kind of cast material?

Alright, think I’m gonna go ahead and buy the OEM roof rack and just cut the antenna to make it fit. Is $260-$280 a good deal for the roof rack? Several dealerships are selling them for that in my area.

Well, I’m used to someone else being the test rat for this stuff while I reap the rewards later on. Guess it’s my time to chip in for TW. Going to pick up the rack tomorrow, will update in this thread.

Any reason why you would want to spend that kind of money on a roof rack that has limited use, and many incidents of failure? There are many alternatives available that can provide you a much more usable rack. Not to mention doing some kind of hack to make it work.

I’m all ears if you have an alternative that isn’t 2-3x more expensive.

Edit: And don’t need to drill into the truck.

I think rhino racks make some tracks that fit in the factory spots? Not sure what they cost though...

Martin Off Road is under $500, and gives you a full aluminum rack with proper T-slot rails, options to add more rails as needed, and cutouts for LED lighting, should you choose, and also use the existing roof attachment points. It may be a few more dollars, but you will only have to buy it once, and have a very safe and usable rack that will last for the life of the truck, without having to perform some type of hack to make it fit with the fin.
