A few more dollars? It's TWICE the cost of the factory rack for the standard config, and looks like it would be noisy.

My only issue with those is wind noise at 60+mph. The OEM is nice because it folds out of the way. I do a bunch of driving for work and need something that can be low profile when I don’t need it. I’ll take a gander at it and see though.

I guess it depends on what you need a rack for. If it is for looks only, I guess the OEM will work fine, other than the antenna hack. If you want to haul a kayak, or bike, spare tire, or use it for anything at all substantial, such as a RTT, you will end up buying a second time anyway, not much savings there. Not to mention if you do try to use the rack and have a failure, such as people who have lost kayaks due to the plastic crossbar failing. Any type of rack failure will be much more expensive than the $200 extra you would pay upfront to get a quality product. And there is still the issue with having to have some type of hack of the antenna fin with the OEM rack on early 2020 trucks. For me, the better value is to buy once, and not have to worry about whether or not the rack will fail while traveling down a busy freeway. Mi dos centavos.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but that looks like a straight up rip-off of the Prinsu rack. I know some of them are similar like the Victory, Sherpa etc... Looks like they added 2 tie down points and called it good...like the price though!

You're not wrong. It all depends on what the intended use is. You're not gonna want to put a RTT on the factory rack. Then again, I wouldn't want to put a RTT up there anyway. However, the OP specifically said he was interested in other options that weren't 2x-3x the cost of the factory rack, and in true TW fashion you threw out an alternative that was 2x as much. Just sayin'. :)

Yes, there's been a lot of discussion about this.

Yes, it is very similar, but comes with 5 crossbars standard (Prinsu has 7) to reduce the cost, and you can add 2 more ($30 each) as needed. The T-Slot Rails are also a standard fit, which allows you to add various types of mounts easily, just as you can with the Prinsu. I actually liked the Cali Raised Premium a lot, but it was just too expensive for my budget.

Yes, there is a $200 difference upfront, however, I was pointing out that the long term the cost of the OEM may end up being a lot more if it needs to be replaced, or worse, fails during use.

Yep, but the difference once you factor in shipping is more like $250. The factory rack can usually be purchased locally. It all boils down to what you want and what works for your application.

Yes, very true. There is also no tax charged on the Martin, at least for shipping to Texas, which does help a bit though.

I think I've come across parts of the discussion but didn't realize this was the culprit. I'm really leaning towards the Sherpa at the moment.

Alright fellas, cancelled my order. Looked up a few reviews and found that the cross members will randomly snap while in use. So, I’m gonna do some more research and figure out the next best option.

If you want to go for something very affordable, but seems to be liked by a number of people on TW, there is a Hooke Road Roof Rack that is sold on Amazon for about $300. It is steel, and does not have the T slot cross bars, but does appear serviceable. It is, however, made in China, and the quality of the powder coat is apparently uneven and subject to rust. Others have reported that the fitment leaves something to be desired and the hardware is not stainless, but heck, it is in your ballpark price wise and should be safer than the OEM rack you were looking at earlier.

Is there any resolution yet for the factory roof rack? I called Toyota and they act like they've never heard of this issue. Same with my dealer. Maybe Meso Customs can design a new shark fin??

Meso has made one. But it’s $200. Some people just buy the OEM rack and attach 3rd party crossbars to it. That seams to be the only current set up that works.

If your truck was manufactured after late February this is not a concern for you anymore. They moved the antenna.

That seems to be their approach. I reported it as well and the toyota rep acted like they had never heard of it. Looks like they're not going to do anything. Unless those affected gang up, they're just going to brush it off.

They're going to brush it off no matter what anyone does. The number of their customers that this effects doesn't make it worth their while to develop a solution to the problem. We're screwed.
