Good luck. It definitely sounds like you got a lemon. Toyota makes them from time to time, as do others. Good luck on getting it sorted.

I have a 2019 SR5 and had similar issues (rumbling/stutter trans when coming to a stop, the typical searching for gears at acceleration and a whine under load. Believe it or not the trucks computer needs to learn your driving habits and will smooth out over the next 5- 10k miles, mine did for sure. Never rumbles/shutters at rolling to stops anymore and trans is pretty darn smooth. Compared to my Silverado its was an odd feeling truck at first for sure. The whine under load was from the serpentine belt - dealer replaced with updated version about 3 months ago - sound is gone. Hope that helps.

Yea, sounds like you got a lemon. Shit happens. If it doesn't qualify for lemon law, try Carvana or Vroom. They're paying almost MSRP for cars right now. It's possible you won't lose a dime.

Unfortunately that's not the case with resale. Below MSRP so with taxes figured in I'm down a decent bit.

I have heard that the trans needs learning. I'm hoping it will smooth out, but I feel like it's destroying my trans already with the rough engagements, grinding noises, and lurching.

I’m no expert in lemon laws, but I think the dealer needs to agree there is actually a problem with the truck and attempt to fix it some number of times. Have you had anyone you trust drive the truck and give you their opinion?

Regardless, it sounds like your taco is not the automobile for you. Sell it and get something else. I traded in my 2016 SR5 AT for a 2020 OR 6mt because the first was not for me. I did not however blame the dealer or Toyota for my mistake.

I read through your other posting about this.

Will the truck make the whining sound that you are describing with the A/C system turned off completely?

As a mechanic, I have found a large number if operator complaints to be unfounded. Most stem from misunderstanding on how the equipment functions, some are simply personal reasons. If you feel this strongly about your truck and have even started calling it a lemon, there is no future for you and the truck. Just sell it, stop trying to resolve it, you never will.

Good luck with whatever choice you end up making :hattip:
